There are still plenty of dominos yet to fall in free agency. Restricted free agents Jalen Duren, Bennedict Mathurin and Peyton Watson are still unsigned. James Harden, Rui Hachimura, Jonathan Kuminga and Draymond Green are all without new contracts too.

Every one of them will almost certainly be playing in the NBA next season, several on different teams.

There may be some buyouts or trades between now and training camp that could shake things up too.

But the biggest news left this summer is undoubtedly going to be the announcement of LeBron James' decision.

At least check-in, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves were all in the mix. There are narrative and basketball reasons to go with any of them.

And even at his age, LeBron's presence on a handful of teams could very well swing the 2026-27 title race.

So, we wait. For the fourth time in his legendary career, we wait to hear where LeBron will take his talents next.

With most of the spending power around the league already spent, there's really only one way for Peyton Watson to get what he thinks he's owed: a sign-and-trade.

And this is the first real indication that that possibility is on the table.

Watson doesn't have a huge sample size suggesting he's worth big money, but for 24 games in the middle of the season, while Nikola Jokić was out, he averaged 19.5 points, 2.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.2 steals.

A team paying him $25-plus million per year would surely be hoping for that for an entire season. And if he provided that, he'd be worth it. But it's far from guaranteed.

For Denver, it's the loss of athleticism that really hurts. The Nuggets are clearly at a deficit there, when compared to contenders like the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder. And given where Denver is financially, there may not be a real way to replace it.

As the world waits on LeBron James' Decision 4.0, one of the faces of the organization where he might wind up, the Golden State Warriors, weighed in.

"People don't understand the weight that LeBron James carries," Green said in a recent episode of his podcast. "Still, after 24 years, I still think people don't understand the force, the weight that this guy carries. From an overall standpoint, the economics that he brings to a team, the economic impact that he may have on a city."

The Warriors probably don't really need the economic impact as much as some other organizations, but Denver and Minneapolis would absolutely benefit from this exact thing Green is talking about.

The New Orleans Pelicans are reminiscent of the 2020-21 Orlando Magic. They're not a very good team, but they have multiple individual players who seem to have trade value around the league.

For the Magic, that was Aaron Gordon, Nikola Vučević and Evan Fournier. For the Pelicans, it's Zion Williamson (assuming anyone wants to take on that injury risk), Herb Jones and Trey Murphy.

The most talked about member of that trio, at least in terms of possibly being moved, is Murphy. And it looks like New Orleans might finally be relenting on what seemed like a borderline absurd asking price.

It remains to be seen whether anyone will pony up three picks for Murphy, but this shift (assuming it actually happened) could mean we're closer to a move.

And if he is moved, whatever team lands Murphy will get a 26-year-old three-and-D wing who's put up 21.4 points and 3.7 assists, while shooting 37.1 percent from deep, over the last two seasons.

Yahoo's Kevin O'Connor lays out a lot of the reasonable concerns with LeBron James joining the Cleveland Cavaliers above, but there's also a chance he becomes the ultimate connective forward.

He could take just enough off of the playmaking plates of James Harden and Donovan Mitchell to free them up as scorers. Another high-end passer could make Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley even more efficient offensively. And those two big men could make up for a lot of what LeBron has lost athletically on the defensive end.

But if you're LeBron, and you're simply looking for the best opportunity to win a fifth championship, there are almost certainly better options than Cleveland.

The Denver Nuggets have Nikola Jokić, and the idea of perhaps the two most clever playmakers of the modern era joining forces is tantalizing. Those two would quickly figure out how to play off each other, and the benefits to Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon and the rest of the supporting cast would be big and immediate.

But the single best option could very well be the Minnesota Timberwolves (who might also represent the least glitzy story of all the candidates). There is a near-perfect, LeBron-sized hole in Minnesota's starting lineup between the backcourt of Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball and the frontcourt of Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.

The guards could learn a lot from LeBron on how to run an offense and lead a team, and the bigs would benefit from the added playmaking.

The Timberwolves might be at a slight athleticism deficit against teams like the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder, but with LeBron, they'd combine enough know-how with raw talent to be a real title contender.

Between Rich Paul going through LeBron James' Whiteboard of options and also saying his client would have gone to the New York Knicks if they didn't just win the title, people glossed over the four-time MVP's agent explaining how he could still end up in the Big Apple.

"Jalen Brunson would literally have to pick up the phone, and say, 'Hey man, it's no issue with me," Paul told Max Kellerman on the Game Over podcast.

Although the Knicks and their fans understandably don't want to jeopardize the team's chemistry coming off an all-time-dominant title run, if this is really all it takes for LeBron sign for the minimum, then fellow Finals MVP Brunson should pick up the phone ASAP.

Of course, the most recent reporting from The Stein Line's Jake Fischer and Marc Stein suggests that it's Cleveland-or-bust for the four-time champ. Even so, with a lift this minimal, it wouldn't hurt for the Knicks and their superstar to try.

Quentin Grimes is probably the Lakers' best wing defender relative to the current roster construction. The thing is, as the playoff matchup data provided by BBall Index's Tim Cranjis shows, he's not really a wing.

Sure, we can interpret this distribution as positional versatility. It is that...to a point. Grimes stands 6'4", with a 6'8" wingspan. He's not going to be the every-possession checker for wings or even some bigger guards.

According to BBall Index's season-long data, Grimes spent over 60 percent of his defensive reps guarding 1s and 2s. Of his top-20 assignments, only two of them were what you'd consider true wings.

This isn't an indictment of Grimes. Even if you think four years and $60 million is a little rich for his services, he's a solid plug-and-play pickup at both ends. But after him, the Lakers' only possibly viable wing defender is Jake LaRavia or, in the event head coach JJ Redick has the sudden urge to punt on offense, Jarred Vanderbilt.

Los Angeles doesn't have much left to work with after burning two first-round picks, two first-round swaps and all of its cap space. Finding a quality wing will prove difficult.

Not that it matters. Because judging from the Lakers' interest in Jonathan Kuminga, they don't seem to care about what they need most anyway.

"Mitchell Robinson was a huge loss for them," Andre Drummond told Mika Ortiz when asked about joining the Knicks. "I bring in a similar talent, similar energy, but I'm a veteran, I've been around for a long time. I know what it takes to win. Excited to be in a new role in a new city and going back to a place I'm familiar with."

On the other hand, if Tatum really cared about Brown wouldn't he have made a native post that permanently showed on his IG grid rather than putting it in a 24-hours-before-it-self-destructs format??????*

Washington Wizards lead assistant David Vanterpool will be transitioning into a front-office role ahead of next season, according to The Athletic's Josh Robbins. His position on head coach Brian Keefe's staff will be filled by Adam Caporn, who has been an assistant with the Wiz since 2024-25 and is also the head honcho of the Australian men's national basketball team.

These changes follow Washington bringing Patrick Ewing and former Charlotte Hornets and Orlando Magic head coach Steve Clifford on as assistants.

Though these additions and transitions can seem purely cosmetic, the Wizards are under pressure to be more competitive next season after trading for Anthony Davis and Trae Young, the latter of whom they just gave a four-year, $212.8 million deal. Any changes they make are therefore notable.

If nothing else, the reshuffling presumably puts additional pressure on Keefe. Washington now has two capable replacements on staff, in Clifford and Caporn, should the season travel off the rails.

Vanterpool's transition to the front office is also worth clocking. He was previously considered a head-coaching candidate for multiple vacancies, so this move raises some eyebrows. Granted, it's not totally out of left field. Vanterpool was on the front-office track back in 2013 before deciding to go the coaching route.

Prior to signing Andre Drummond, the New York Knicks were monitoring the availability of Charlotte Hornets center Moussa Diabaté, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

It'll be interesting to see whether New York's pursuit continues with Drummond in tow. He replaces some of Mitchell Robinson's offensive rebounding while potentially adding a stretch element from the corners, but he's not nearly as mobile or versatile on the defensive end.

Diabaté is a better across-the-board fit even though he doesn't bring the prospect of a three-point shot. His finishing through contact and at the rim outstrips that from Drummond, and he contested noticeably more shots at the hoop per 100 possessions last year despite spending more time on non-bigs than his elder counterpart.

Whether Charlotte would move its 24-year-old big man is debatable. Having Naz Reid, Hannes Steinbach and Ryan Kalkbrenner could make it easier, but only the latter profiles as a true 5.

Still, the Hornets have signaled a commitment to the bigger picture since the season ended by trading LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges. With Diabaté speeding toward free agency next summer, moving him and his $2.5 million expiring salary would fit that same motif.

Sources told Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line that the Denver Nuggets have "rebuffed several trade offers from teams attempting to pry away Cam Johnson."

This news comes amid speculation that Denver is willing to enter the second apron and bring back restricted free agent Peyton Watson without moving around other money. Many pegged Johnson as a likely cost-cutting casualty given how much Christian Braun's trade value has declined entering the first season of a five-year, $125.5 million extension.

Take all of this with a big ol' bowl of skepticism. All of us should believe the Nuggets will go into the second apron when we see it.

They are less than $3 million away from crossing the threshold without factoring in Watson's next deal, and assuming they waive Jonas Valančiūnas. Re-signing Swatterson could put them north of $30 million past the NBA's pseudo hard-cap.

It's tough to imagine the governing Kroenkes ponying up that much for the same roster that just got bounced in the first round. If anything, this newfound willingness to break open the piggy bank feels like a publicity stunt in the wake of reporting that Nikola Jokić may delay signing an extension.

Jonathan Kuminga is drawing interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks, according to Jake Fischer and Marc Stein of The Stein Line. While it's nice to be wanted, none of these teams are positioned to pay the 23-year-old that much money.

Cleveland and Los Angeles only have minimums available. Atlanta still has Kuminga's Bird rights after declining his $23.4 million team option but is around $10 million away from the luxury tax.

Milwaukee still has the $15 million mid-level exception to dangle and plenty of room beneath the luxury tax. Whether it wants to allocate touches to Kuminga with Nate Ament, Brayden Burries, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Tyler Herro and Ryan Rollins all still on the roster is a different story.

Sign-and-trade scenarios could emerge. The Hawks are willing to facilitate to them, per Stein and Fischer. Reading between the lines, with Cleveland toeing the second apron and unable to acquire a player via sign-and-trade, it feels like Kuminga-to-the-Lakers could be picking up steam.

ESPN Cleveland posted a picture of LeBron James in Akron, Ohio, with his St. Vincent St. Mary high school teammates and Cleveland Cavaliers assistant general manger Brandon Weems. The internet is reacting as you might expect: by declaring his return to wine and gold fait accompli.

Fortunately for the other suitors who made a cameo on the now-infamous Whiteboard, LeBron has been known to revisit his Ohio roots in the offseason even when he's not playing in Cleveland.

Unfortunately for those same teams, a third reunion with the Cavs is "looking more and more like the scenario to beat," according to Jake Fischer and Marc Stein over at The Stein Line.
