What a time for DR Congo

WHAT TO KNOW
The knockout stage is here!
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is now officially a single-elimination tournament, and first up is a pair of group stage runners-up as South Africa takes on co-host Canada. This is the first-ever knockout stage match for both countries.
The South Africans earned a surprising second-place finish after upsetting South Korea in their final group stage game. They are disciplined at the back and dangerous on the counter-attack, which will make them a threat in knockout play.
Canada would have hoped to play in front of a home crowd in the Round of 32, but their defeat to Switzerland in the final group stage match dropped them to second place and has them playing south of the border. They are still rightfully the favorites in this match, and that status would be cemented if star left back Alphonso Davies is available to make his tournament debut after managing a hamstring injury during the group stage.
