Heat vs Mavericks: LeBron James Proves He's Ready To Win First NBA Championship

Nicholas GossDec 25, 2011

LeBron James and the Miami Heat dominated the Dallas Mavericks 105-94 in an inspired effort that proved that the much-maligned James is ready to dominate this season and win his first NBA championship.

James' 37 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks completed an insane stat line that showed how dominant the Heat superstar will be this season.

After a terrible NBA Finals performance against the Mavericks last season, James dedicated himself this summer to becoming a better all-around player, and the rest of the league should be scared of what he can accomplish this season.

James is the most talented player in the NBA, and no player in the history of the sport has been gifted with his unique combination of great size and blazing quickness.

In his ninth season as a pro, James is determined to silence his many critics that have hammered him with accusations that he chokes in big games and will never win an NBA title.

Given James' great strength, it was necessary that he learn to dominate in the paint and be effective in the low post.

With teammate Dwyane Wade handling the ball a lot for the Heat, James made a very smart move to work on his post game this summer in an effort eliminate the amount of dribblers on the perimeter for Miami.

He chose the best man to help him improve his post offense, Hall-of-Fame center and two-time champion Hakeem Olajuwon.

"

"I look at what he was able to do throughout his career," James said. "Unbelievable talent. Multiple champion. Just to see how he was able to dominate in the low post, for me as an individual, I just try to look at some of the things I feel I need to get better at and hit home at it. Our team becomes better if I continue to get better and that's what it's about."

"

James' willingness to add to his repertoire of offensive skills shows his maturity and dedication to helping himself and his team improve to a championship level.

If James and power forward Chris Bosh can dominate in the paint, the Heat will be impossible defend. How are you supposed to defend James and Bosh in the paint when you have Wade and sharpshooters like James Jones hovering on the perimeter?

The answer? you can't.

Miami knows they have to win a title this season or face the possibility that breaking the "Big Three" up could be a solution to their problems.

James has taken matters into his own hands by learning ways to make himself an even more dominant player.

It's clear from James' performance on Sunday that he is determined to erase the failures of his past and lift the Larry O'Brien trophy for the first time in his career this June.
