NBA Rumors: Which Teams Must Pursue Nate Robinson After Thunder Buyout Contract?
The Oklahoma City Thunder have reached an agreement with Nate Robinson to buyout the diminutive guard’s contract and allow him to become a free agent, according to Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated.
Will any team be willing to take a chance on this gunner without a conscience?
He absolutely should have a number of suitors when he hits the open market, as his offensive potential is too great to ignore.
Here are some candidates and potential fits for the 5’9” athletic freak.
Boston Celtics
Would the Celtics be ready for another round of Nate?
He had his moments with the team and significantly contributed at times during the 2010 NBA Finals, which Boston lost in seven games to the Lakers.
Right now, the team could use any productive body who would be willing to sign for a veteran’s minimum contract, the most they could afford to give.
The team is woefully thin and offensively inept once they get into their second team, so don’t be surprised if Danny Ainge were to give him a hard look.
Orlando Magic
The Magic just released Gilbert Arenas and have a need for a talented guard to come off the bench and energize the team.
Robinson is the best player available right now to fill that hole. The man specializes as a spark plug—something the team desperately needs to inject energy into a lethargic roster that is possibly more concerned about Dwight Howard’s future than their play on the court right now.
San Antonio Spurs
This team of creaky, old veterans has a window about to slam shut for a while on their title chances.
Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobli and Tony Parker have all logged countless minutes in this league and don’t have much time left to actually win a championship or be serious about contending for one.
Adding Nate would give them fresh legs and energy that they sorely need off their bench.
