NBA Players Even the Best Defenders Can't Stop
With the NBA season about to start, the superstars of the game are about to take center stage once again.
When it's crunch time, there are only a few select players in the game today who can be counted on to score no matter who guards them.
Here is a look at a handful of players in the league that even the best defenders can't stop.
Kevin Durant
1 of 8I feel bad for the guys that have to guard Durant on a nightly basis. The defending scoring champ can take it to the rim with ease and his jumper is very smooth.
When he gets the ball in space, he's next to impossible to check. Lay off him and he buries the jumper. Get in his face and he goes right by you. Try to get physical with him and he will make a habit of getting to the charity stripe. He's also working on Dirk Nowitzki's step back jumper to give defenders more to worry about.
When you think unstoppable, think Durant first.
LeBron James
2 of 8What do you do if LeBron James has a head of steam heading towards to the basket?
The smart thing would be to get out of his way.
Add to that the fact that James looks like he's going to be a post presence this season, and he's close to unstoppable. No one defender will be able to handle the strength of James in the post.
As a matter of fact, the only person that's been capable of stopping James has been himself. His jump shot has limited him, and poor performances in tight fourth quarters have critics questioning his greatness, but if he keeps his game heading towards the rim, no one defender can stop him.
Dirk Nowitzki
3 of 8Nowitzki is another guy that cannot be guarded.
He has a variety of moves to create separation for his shot and his mid-range game is lethal. Going to the his left hand, he can get shots up quickly.
Never in basketball prior to Nowitzki have defenders had to worry about having to guard a seven-footer on the block and then having to step out with him on the perimeter where he can just kill you.
His fade away jumper is simply unblockable and he has so many ways to beat you.
Blake Griffin
4 of 8Griffin was the only player in the NBA to average 22 points, 12 rebounds and three assists per game a season ago and he was only a rookie.
He's just going to get better.
His strength and vertical just can't be handled by one man in the post.
He's more explosive and stronger than anyone who will guard him and can play his game above the rim as well as on the ground.
The possibilities for Griffin are endless. All I know is that one man can't stop him.
Kobe Bryant
5 of 8Sure his wrist is hurt now, but even at his age, Bryan't still unstoppable.
Bryant is devastating in the post and can take a step back and own the mid-range game.
His legs are healthy for the first time in a while which means he will be able to attack the rim again. If you want to play him for all of that, he is more than capable of knocking shots down from behind the arc.
Bryant's games is too much for one defender to have to deal with.
Derrick Rose
6 of 8The one knock on Rose before last season was that he was a below average three-point shooter.
He improved dramatically there and ended up winning the MVP award.
He's bigger and stronger than most point guards and he's a dynamic finisher around the basket. His speed and athleticism makes him next to unstoppable in transition and he's getting to the free-throw line much more often.
Rose is still growing as a player, which is scary for anyone that has to guard him.
Dwyane Wade
7 of 8Despite not being the best shooter, Wade makes the list.
He's a great pick-and-roll guard with blinding quickness and an insane leaping ability.
What makes him so difficult to guard is that he draws more fouls than anyone in the league by creating contact with his barrage of fakes.
Carmelo Anthony
8 of 8Anthony is a phenomenal scorer who simply overpowers opponents on the block which also means he gets to the free-throw line at an insane rate.
His knock before last season was that he wasn't a great shooter and had a knack for forcing things, but he had a very good year shooting the rock in 2011.
If that continues, Anthony could be unstoppable in a New York Knicks lineup that's much-improved. If you double him too much, he's a fantastic passer.
Even though the Knicks lost their first round playoff series to the Boston Celtics last year, Anthony took over and the Celtics didn't have many answers for stopping him. On a much better team, he could have a very special season.
