2011 Bowl Predictions: Best Non-BCS Game Performances

Mike ChiariDec 21, 2011

While most of the focus tends to be on the BCS bowls during the bowl season, there are plenty of intriguing teams and players in the lesser-known bowls as well.

While there may not be as much hinging on the results of those games, they are great platforms on which players can make a statement.

There have been plenty of occasions in the past where little-known players have announced their presence in such bowls, as well as established players proving they're for real.

Here are three players that figure to put forth huge performances in non-BCS bowl games.

Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State

For four fantastic years, Kellen Moore has been the Boise State Broncos' starting quarterback. Not only has he reached unprecedented heights in terms of winning, but he has put up eye-popping numbers every season, including this year when he completed over 74 percent of his passes and threw for 41 touchdowns.

He'll have one last college hurrah on Thursday when the Broncos take on the Arizona State Sun Devils in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas.

The Sun Devils struggled on defense for much of the season and were exposed by some of the nation's better offenses. Boise State certainly fits into that category thanks to the play of Moore.

Not only will Moore want to end his college career on a high note with yet another victory, but he will most definitely want to turn in a big performance in order to catch the attention of NFL teams. Because of those factors, I expect a vintage Kellen Moore performance on Thursday.

Jordan White, WR, Western Michigan

Perhaps one of the best college players that nobody has heard of, Western Michigan wide receiver Jordan White took the MAC and college football by storm this season as he led the nation in receiving with 127 grabs for 1,646 yards, as well as 16 touchdowns.

Because of his level of competition, White probably doesn't receive the respect he deserves, but he will have a chance to produce against BCS AQ conference team Purdue in the Little Caesars Bowl.

White, like Kellen Moore, is a senior so he will want to get on the NFL radar as well. White isn't considered much of an NFL prospect at this point, but a great performance against Purdue and a good combine could certainly change that.

Few receivers have been as quietly productive as White over the past two years, but he'll look to make some noise on Dec. 27.

Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

Fresh off his Heisman Trophy win, Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III will take on the Washington Huskies in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.

The Huskies have been awful defensively all season and were embarrassed by elite offensive teams like USC, Oregon and Stanford. Baylor is certainly in that company, so Griffin should come up huge as he has all season long.

Griffin's season numbers of over 4,600 total yards, 45 touchdowns and just six interceptions are absolutely ridiculous, and he only stands to improve upon those numbers against Washington.

I wouldn't say that anybody has really questioned the validity of Griffin as a Heisman winner, but some thought Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck or Alabama running back Trent Richardson were more deserving.

Griffin will stake his claim once and for all in the Alamo Bowl.
