Top 50 Most Important Things We Learned from the NFL's Week 15
The NFL's Week 15 is all but over with just one game left to be played on ESPN's Monday Night Football with the San Francisco 49ers hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With that being said, allow me to get this out of the way: The Green Bay Packers are no longer undefeated. Yeah, that's right—the Kansas City Chiefs pulled of the biggest upset of the season with a 19-14 victory.
As the Packers fell short, the Indianapolis Colts were able to get their very first win of the season as well as Tim Tebow meeting his kryptonite, in Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.
All in all, the NFL's Week 15 was action-packed so let me give you the top 50 most important things that we learned from Week 15.
Blaine Gabbert Is Having a Horrendous Rookie Season
1 of 50Blaine Gabbert's rookie season with the Jacksonville Jaguars only got worse as his team was destroyed by the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night, 41-14.
Gabbert turned the ball over three times as he completed only 54.5 percent of his passes for just 141 yards and only one touchdown.
Roddy White Had His Best Performance of the Season Against the Jaguars
2 of 50Roddy White has had an up-and-down season for the Atlanta Falcons this season, but really turned it on against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
White reeled in 10 passes for a whopping 135 yards while scoring two touchdowns in Atlanta's 41-14 victory.
The Atlanta Falcons Are the Best Wild Card Team Entering Week 16
3 of 50Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons could very well be a division winner in any division in football but as they play in the NFC South with the New Orleans Saints, they're projected to be just a Wild Card team.
However, the Falcons are a very dangerous team as they're now 9-5 after their thrashing on the Jacksonville Jaguars, 41-14.
Maurice Jones-Drew Is Jacksonville's Only Offensive Weapon
4 of 50I'm pretty sure that Maurice Jones-Drew was the only player for the Jacksonville Jaguars that made the trip to Atlanta as they fell short, 41-14.
Jones-Drew ran for a solid 112 yards on just 17 carries and was clearly Jacksonville's only form of offense against not only the Falcons, but against everyone else that they have played this season.
The Dallas Cowboys Are Back to Their Winning Ways
5 of 50Entering Week 15, the Dallas Cowboys were riding a two-game losing streak but that all turned around with a huge victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday night.
Dallas was able to travel to Tampa and absolutely demolish the Bucs, 31-15. The Cowboys are now 8-6 and currently hold the top spot in the NFC East.
Tony Romo Torched Tampa Bay's Secondary
6 of 50Tony Romo had arguably his best game of the season when the Dallas Cowboys needed it the most.
Romo completed an impressive 76.7 percent of his passes for 249 yards as he tossed three touchdowns in the team's 31-15 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Raheem Morris Is Definitely on the Hot-Seat
7 of 50Personally, I do not believe that Raheem Morris will be fired by the end of the season but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been playing very poorly as of late.
Entering Week 16, the Bucs are on a pitiful eight-game losing streak, which could move people to believe that Morris needs to be fired.
The Houston Texans Are No Longer the Top Seed in the AFC
8 of 50The Houston Texans appeared to be fine with T.J. Yates at quarterback, but losing to the Carolina Panthers is definitely alarming.
Houston fell short 28-13 against Cam Newton and the Panthers. With the loss, the Texans are no longer the top seed in the AFC.
T.J. Yates Needs To Take Better Care of the Football
9 of 50If the Houston Texans are going to win with T.J. Yates at quarterback, then he's going to have to take better care of the football and commit no turnovers.
Against the Carolina Panthers, Yates failed to throw one touchdown and he was picked off two times. Moving forward, if the Texans want to win then Yates needs to play a whole lot better.
Cam Newton Played Like a Seasoned Veteran Against the Texans
10 of 50Cam Newton came into Houston and faced one of the NFL's most ferocious defenses and simply shredded them to pieces.
In the Carolina Panthers' 28-13 win, Newton completed 13 of his 23 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 55 total yards.
Ben Tate Needs To Be More Productive If the Texans Want To Win
11 of 50With T.J. Yates at quarterback, the Houston Texans need to be more productive on the ground—which means that Ben Tate has to pick up the slack.
Tate got the ball seven times against the Carolina Panthers and he ran for only 26 yards and failed to score a touchdown.
Tate and Arian Foster need to put the offense on their backs if they want to make a deep playoff run.
Steve Smith Is Still a Lethal Wide Receiver
12 of 50Steve Smith had an absolutely dreadful season last year but now with Cam Newton at quarterback, he's really turned around his career.
Smith has been outstanding this season and was unstoppable against the Houston Texans as he caught five passes for 82 yards and a touchdown.
The Buffalo Bills Are Pathetic
13 of 50The Buffalo Bills started off their season with an impressive 5-2 record but now have lost seven in a row and now enter Week 16 with a 5-9 record.
All in all, following Buffalo's 30-23 loss against the Miami Dolphins, this may be one of the worst collapses in recent memory.
Ryan Fitzpatrick Has Turned into a Joke
14 of 50Ryan Fitzpatrick simply cannot stop turning the ball over—he is an interception machine.
Against the Miami Dolphins, Fitzpatrick completed 66.0 percent of his passes for 300 yards but managed to throw a putrid three interceptions.
Reggie Bush Had His Breakout Game as a Miami Dolphin
15 of 50Reggie Bush really played to his full potential in the Miami Dolphins' 30-23 win over the Buffalo Bills.
Bush ran for a whopping 203 yards on just 23 carries while scoring one touchdown—this was definitely his best game as a Dolphin.
C.J. Spiller Picked Up Some Slack for the Buffalo Bills
16 of 50The Buffalo Bills may have lost the game Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, but C.J. Spiller really played his heart out.
Spiller ran for a whopping 91 yards and a touchdown on just 12 carries while reeling in 10 passes for 73 yards and a score.
The Indianapolis Colts Finally Won a Game
17 of 50Wow—I am in shock right now. I honestly thought that the Indianapolis Colts were going to lose every single game this season.
The Colts are now 1-13 entering Week 16 after their incredible 27-13 victory over the Tennessee Titans.
The Tennessee Titans Are Pathetic
18 of 50There's not much you can say about the Tennessee Titans. I mean, they're a decent football team but now I strongly believe that they're pathetic after their 27-13 loss against the Indianapolis Colts.
Who loses to the Colts? Who does that?
The Colts Are Still Sucking for Luck
19 of 50The Indianapolis Colts may have won Sunday, but they're still "sucking for Luck."
One win isn't going to make a huge difference come draft time.
The Colts will be the top overall pick and they will be selecting Andrew Luck—I guarantee it.
It's Time To Sit Matt Hasselbeck and Start Jake Locker
20 of 50It's clear that Matt Hasselbeck is no longer effective as the Tennessee Titans' starting quarterback as he was intercepted two times in the team's pathetic loss against the Indianapolis Colts.
Hasselbeck was pulled in favor of Jake Locker and the rookie out of Washington played fairly well. Locker completed 11 of his 16 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown.
The Cincinnati Bengals Are Moving a Surge for the Playoffs
21 of 50The Cincinnati Bengals may not have a playoff spot as of right now, but they are certainly in contention for the playoffs as they're the seventh best team and currently have the same record as the New York Jets at 8-6.
It may have been ugly, but the Bengals were able to pull off a 20-13 victory over the St. Louis Rams.
A.J. Green Is Unstoppable
22 of 50A.J. Green should be considered for the offensive rookie of the year award, but he likely wont win it. However, Green has been one hell of a player this season for the Cincinnati Bengals despite being a rookie.
In the team's most recent victory over the St. Louis Rams, Green caught six passes for a solid 115 yards.
Kellen Clemens Is Not That Bad of a Backup Quarterback
23 of 50Filling in for the injured Sam Bradford, Kellen Clemens played very well for the St. Louis Rams.
Clemens completed 25 of his 36 passes for 229 yards while throwing one touchdown and posting a solid 95.7 quarterback rating.
Caleb Hanie Was Benched in Favor of Josh McCown
24 of 50Caleb Hanie was completely pitiful against the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday as he completed only 43.5 percent of his passes while being picked off three times.
Hanie was benched in favor of Josh McCown as the Chicago Bears were blown out by the Seahawks, 38-14.
The Chicago Bears Will Likely Not Make the Playoffs
25 of 50If the playoffs were to start today, the Chicago Bears would miss out as their currently the eighth seed in the NFC.
Following Chicago's 38-14 loss, the Bears now have dropped four in a row and now have a mediocre 7-7 record.
Marshawn Lynch Is a Touchdown Machine
26 of 50Marshawn Lynch may have only ran for 42 yards against the Chicago Bears but he still managed to score two touchdowns.
Lynch now has a total of 11 touchdowns on the season and is a touchdown-making-machine.
Lovie Smith Has Yet To Name a Starting Quarterback for Next Week
27 of 50Both Caleb Hanie and Josh McCown are so awful, Lovie Smith has yet to name a starting quarterback for next week's game against the Green Bay Packers, according to ESPN Chicago.
Who do you think should be the starter? If I were Lovie, I'd still stick with Hanie.
The New Orleans Saints May Be the Best Team in the NFL
28 of 50Yeah, you heard me correctly—the New Orleans Saints may very well be the best team in the NFL after the Green Bay Packers' embarrassing loss against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Saints are now 11-3 after their 42-20 crushing win over the Minnesota Vikings.
Marques Colston Is an Elite Wide Receiver
29 of 50Marques Colston was ultimately unstoppable against the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday—he's been unstoppable pretty much all season.
Colston caught eight passes for 91 yards on his way to helping the New Orleans Saints improve to 11-3.
Christian Ponder Needs To Be More Accurate
30 of 50Christian Ponder hasn't had that bad of a rookie season—definitely not as bad as Blaine Gabbert's, but he still needs to improve.
Against the New Orleans Saints, Ponder may have thrown for two touchdowns but was picked off once and completed only 45.2 percent of his passes.
Drew Brees Is Playing Like the Best Quarterback in the Game
31 of 50Move over Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady, Drew Brees is playing at the highest level entering Week 16.
Brees absolutely demolished the Minnesota Vikings as he completed 32 of his 40 passes for a whopping 412 yards and an incredible five touchdowns.
Drew Brees is not only the best quarterback in the game, but the best player.
Darren Sproles Can Do It All
32 of 50Darren Sproles lit up the Minnesota Vikings in the New Orleans Saints 42-20 win.
Sproles ran for 33 yards on just eight carries and reeled in five catches for 79 yards while scoring one of Drew Brees' five touchdowns.
The Green Bay Packers Are No Longer Undefeated
33 of 50So much for going undefeated—the Green Bay Packers managed to cough one up against the lowly Kansas City Chiefs.
Entering Sunday's matchup against the Chiefs, the Packers had a 13-0 record and looked like they were definitely going to finish the season 16-0 but K.C. managed to escape with an incredible 19-14 win.
Are the Packers still the best team in football? I actually think not.
Romeo Crennel Shutdown Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers
34 of 50Romeo Crennel spent four years as the New England Patriots' defensive coordinator as he won three Super Bowls and helped turn the Patriots into one of the top defensive teams in that time period.
Coming into Week 15, Crennel was named the Kansas City Chiefs' interim head coach and came up with a scheme to shutdown Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.
Kyle Orton's Career Isn't over Quite Yet
35 of 50Don't count Kyle Orton out just yet—he can still play at a high level in the NFL.
Orton completed 72.2 percent of his passes against the Green Bay Packers as he posted a 104.1 quarterback rating on his way to leading his Chiefs to an improbable upset win over the Packers.
The New York Giants Are Likely out of the Playoffs
36 of 50Following their 23-10 loss against the Washington Redskins, the New York Giants are now 7-7 and have an outside shot to making the playoffs in 2011.
New York's best hope is that if they can win out and have Dallas Cowboys lose out.
Eli Manning Needs To Take Better Care of the Football
37 of 50Eli Manning was having an impressive season thus far entering Week 15, but he literally threw the game away and could have ended New York's season with his putrid performance.
Manning completed only 57.5 percent of his passes for 257 yards but failed to throw a touchdown as he threw three interceptions against the Washington Redskins.
The Detroit Lions Are Making a Playoff Surge
38 of 50Watch out for the Detroit Lions—they have now won two games in a row and look to be a force to be reckoned with entering the 2011 playoffs.
Following Detroit's 28-27 victory over the Oakland Raiders, they have put themselves in a great position moving forward into the final two weeks of the season.
The Oakland Raiders' Season Is All but over
39 of 50I hate to say it, but I do not see the Oakland Raiders making the playoffs as they now enter Week 16 with a mediocre 7-7 record.
The Raiders are a game behind the Denver Broncos in the NFC West and have an outside shot at making the playoffs with a Wild Card spot in the AFC.
Matthew Stafford Had Arguably His Best Game of the Season Against the Raiders
40 of 50Matthew Stafford came into the Oakland's Black Hole and did not show any signs of fear as he torched the Raiders in the team's 28-27 come-from-behind win.
Stafford posted an impressive 105.5 quarterback rating while throwing for 391 yards and a whopping four touchdowns in a game that the Lions needed to win.
Carson Palmer Was Not the Reason for Oakland's Loss
41 of 50Carson Palmer actually played very well for the Oakland Raiders this Sunday despite his team falling short against the Detroit Lions, 28-27.
The USC product posted a 113.2 quarterback rating while throwing one touchdown on 32 of 40 passing for 367 yards.
The Arizona Cardinals Could Make a Legitimate Run for the Playoffs
42 of 50Following the Arizona Cardinals' 20-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns, the team is now 7-7 and could back-door their way into the postseason.
The only way that this can happen is if the Cards win out and a few teams lose a few games along the way.
The New York Jets Are Walking on Thin Ice
43 of 50The New York Jets need to get their act together if they want to be a legitimate playoff contender entering the final stretch of the 2011 playoffs.
Following the team's embarrassing 45-19 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Jets are now 8-6 and are currently holding onto the final playoff spot entering Week 16.
LeSean McCoy Is One of the Most Crafty Running Backs in the NFL
44 of 50LeSean McCoy has been the lone positive for the Philadelphia Eagles this season as his team was able to pull off a solid 45-19 win over the New York Jets.
In the game, McCoy scored a whopping three touchdowns while accumulating 102 yards on just 18 carries—that's a 5.7 yards per-carry average.
Mark Sanchez Is New York's Weakest Link
45 of 50If Mark Sanchez could just complete a few more passes and take better care of the football, then the New York Jets would be in a much better position entering the playoffs.
Sanchez completed only 57.7 percent of his passes against the Philadelphia Eagles and he was intercepted two times.
Tebow Time Is Now Over....For Now at Least
46 of 50Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos weren't able to pull off yet another comeback against the New England Patriots this week, as the Pats edged the Broncos, 41-23.
Despite losing, Tebow played pretty well as he completed 11 of his 22 passes for 194 yards while running for two touchdowns and accumulating 93 total rushing yards.
Tim Tebow Is Just No Match for Tom Brady
47 of 50Coming into Week 15, the biggest storyline was Tom Brady vs. Tim Tebow—well, that's all over now as Brady and the New England Patriots destroyed Tebow and the Denver Broncos.
Brady posted a 117.3 quarterback rating while completing 67.6 percent of his passes for an impressive 320 yards and two touchdowns.
Chad Ochocinco Scored His First Touchdown as a Patriot
48 of 50It's about time that Chad Ochocinco finally did something as a New England Patriot.
Ochocinco caught only one pass for 33 yards but it happened to be New England's first touchdown of the game.
Joe Flacco Will Be the Death of the Baltimore Ravens
49 of 50Joe Flacco was absolutely horrendous in Baltimore's embarrassing 34-14 loss against the San Diego Chargers.
In the loss, Flacco completed 67.6 percent of his passes for two touchdowns but was intercepted two times. Flacco cannot turn the ball over that much and he has to make more plays for the Ravens if they want to make a deep playoff run.
With the loss, Baltimore falls to 10-4 and could be in second place in the AFC North if the Pittsburgh Steelers can beat the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.
The San Diego Chargers Are Still Alive
50 of 50Don't count the San Diego Chargers out quite yet—they're still alive in the playoff hunt.
With San Diego's impressive 34-14 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, the Chargers have now improved to 7-7 and currently sit with the 10th seed in the AFC.
If San Diego wins out and has a few teams lose a couple of games, Philip Rivers and the Chargers will be in the playoffs with a 9-7 record.
