Heisman Trophy 2011: What Each of the Finalists Might Be Thinking Right Now
The five finalists have to be enjoying themselves this weekend in New York since they are on cloud nine, with millions around the nation watching and awaiting to see who will win the 2011 Heisman Trophy.
This season has been completely wide open as there have not been that many moments for the Heisman invitees.
They do have a lot in common, however. Outside of Robert Griffin III for Baylor, every player is attempting to give their program its second ever Heisman Trophy winner.
Griffin, of course, could even up all the of the invitees programs if his name were to get called. Still, every invitee has a few thoughts on the possibility of their name getting called, but what exactly are those thoughts?
Tyrann Mathieu: Enjoying the Good Times
1 of 5As my friends in Baton Rouge, "Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez"" or we could just say to let the good times roll.
Right now the "Honey Badger" is just a sophomore and has already tied the SEC record for most fumbles forced.
Throw in four non-offensive touchdowns for the spectacular All-American and he is just enjoying the ride right now with more important things ahead of him in the near future.
Montee Ball: Happy He Never Changed Positions
2 of 5It was just a season ago where Montee Ball was pondering the thought of switching positions. He wanted to play linebacker since he was not getting a ton of playing time as a freshman.
He stepped it up as a sophomore alongside James White and John Clay. However, he had a sensational game in the Rose Bowl and has since turned that performance into an All-American and Heisman worthy season performance.
Ball has 38 total touchdowns (39 if you count his 1 passing TD) which is just one shy of Barry Sanders record. Only one Badgers has won the Heisman (Ron Dayne, 1999) and Ball would love to become the second.
Even if he does not end up winning it he has already stated that he feels honor to just be honored among the most outstanding college football players in the country.
Trent Richardson: Anxiously Awaiting LSU Game
3 of 5Trent Richardson would love to become the second-ever Alabama player to hoist the 8.5 pound Heisman Trophy, but he has a few other things on the backburner.
Of course he is thinking about winning the Heisman, especially when the moment comes as to who will indeed win the Heisman Trophy. However, he did not play in the SEC Championship Game and he gives you the feeling that he cannot wait to put on the pads again.
He is a warrior for grid-iron terms and he cannot wait for his rematch with LSU. He did total for over 175 yards in the first contest, but it is not like Richardson has had a ton of Heisman moments.
"The Freak" wants to make a few moments of his own on Jan. 9 and if he wins the BCS National Championships instead of the Heisman, things would be just fine.
Andrew Luck: Calm, Cool and Collective
4 of 5This is almost like old news for Andrew Luck because he has been there and done that (outside of actually of winning it, but at least he has been to NYC before).
No disrespect towards the Heisman Trophy, but Andrew Luck keeps everything in moderation and he never shows too much emotion on or off the football field. Very rarely do we see him (if ever) show to much passion in the thrill of victory or in the agony of defeat.
Luck is likely to become the top pick in April's NFL Draft, but he is just looking to continue to improve his play heading into the NFL Draft. Even if he does not end up finishing in the top two, Luck has left his mark on the collegiate game while at Stanford.
Robert Griffin III: Soon to Be Grateful
5 of 5Things have been put in a great position for Robert Griffin III to succeed this season. He has had a solid cast around him, but playing at a school at Baylor, the pressure has not always been there in Waco.
The schedule of his lined up perfectly as they upset a top 20 squad in TCU in the seaosn opener thanks to Griffin III going bonkers for 359 yards and 5 TDs!
Griffin followed things up throughout the season as he had six game in which he totaled for 4 TDs or more.
If Griffin prevails, he would leave his mark (likely to leave for NFL) since he would become the first ever Baylor Bear to win the Heisman.
