Montee Ball: 5 Reasons Why the Wisconsin RB Should Win the Heisman
With the announcement of the Heisman Trophy winner less then 12 hours away, the campaigning is done, the votes are in and now it is just a waiting game.
For Wisconsin's Montee Ball, the running back has a strong resume that has led him to being in New York for tonight's announcement.
Before the winner becomes official, here is a look at five reasons why the person to have their name announced tonight should be Montee Ball.
Touchdown Machine
1 of 5Montee Ball is closing in on Barry Sanders' rushing touchdown record, but still, 32 touchdown in one season is an amazing statistic.
During the 2011 season, Ball managed to score a touchdown in every game he played in, showing that he never took a game off and always made an impact on the score of the game.
More Then Just Touchdowns
2 of 5Aside from the touchdowns that seemingly piled up for Montee Ball, he also was able to rush for a ton of yards during the season.
Ball ended the year with 1759 yards rushing and had five games in which he rushed for over 150 yards. In two of those games, he went over 200 yards.
Conference Title Performance
3 of 5One thing that has always been important for a Heisman Trophy candidate is being able to play on the last weekend of the year and give a marquee performance.
With the Badgers on the big stage against Michigan State and playing for the Big 10 title, Ball came up with one of his better performances of the year. During the conferences final game, Ball rushed for 137 yards and three touchdowns.
Conference Monster
4 of 5While a lot of Heisman candidates are able to pad their stats by going up against weak, out-of-conference teams, Ball saved his best performances for the games he played in conference.
Against Nebraska, Ohio State, Michigan State and Penn State, Ball rushed for 10 touchdowns and put up 151, 85, 115 and 156 rushing yards, respectively.
Humble
5 of 5One thing that the Heisman Trophy committee loves is a candidate that is humble and about the team. Ball is an amazing player, but he is also humble and able to put the needs of the team in front of his.
Out in the Big 10, Ball quietly put up big numbers, continued to help his team win and put forth an outstanding Heisman resume.
