Macatology for December 5th: Projecting the NCAA College Basketball Seeds

Here’s this week’s edition of Macatology, and there are a bunch of teams switching seed lines, as December is just starting. 

Here are the seeds this week: 

No. 1 Seeds

NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Championship
North Carolina v Duke

Ohio State

Syracuse

Kentucky

Duke

Ohio State takes over as the No. 1 seed in the tournament after its domination of Duke and has another test at Kansas this weekend. 

Syracuse moves up to the top line after beating Florida at home despite the scandal at the school.  Kentucky solidified its seed with the thrilling come-from-behind win at home over North Carolina and gets the week to prepare for the matchup against Indiana.

Duke stays on the top line even after the loss in Columbus back on Tuesday and has a couple of intriguing contests this week. 

No. 2 Seeds

North Carolina

Louisville

Baylor

Xavier

North Carolina drops down a line after losing its second game in its last three in the final seconds to Kentucky in Lexington. 

Louisville stayed undefeated with the thrilling overtime home win over Vanderbilt. Baylor looks like a solid top-16 seed this season after running all over previously undefeated Northwestern. 

Xavier makes a big jump this week after the epic second-half comeback and home victory over Purdue. 

No. 3 Seeds

Connecticut

Florida

Marquette

Missouri

Connecticut might have gotten just that much better with the debut of Ryan Boatright in the win over Arkansas. 

Florida has an interesting game in New York against Arizona after the loss to Syracuse.  Marquette made a big statement going on the road and beating in-state rival Wisconsin. 

Missouri remained unbeaten before its contest with Villanova this week.

No. 4 Seeds

Alabama

Michigan

Kansas

Wisconsin

Alabama is coming off its first loss, which was a tough one at home to Georgetown. 

Michigan continues to look strong after blowing out Iowa State at home.  Kansas is still finding its way with a young team after beating South Florida at home. 

Wisconsin takes a tumble after a tough week with losses to North Carolina and Marquette.

No. 5 Seeds

Pittsburgh

Nevada-Las Vegas

California

Michigan State

Pittsburgh is finding a way to win without Travon Woodard and got a good road win at Tennessee. 

UNLV had a tough performance on the road with a loss at Wichita State.  California still looks to be the early leader in the Pac-12. 

Michigan State has now won six in a row after two opening losses.

No. 6 Seeds

Gonzaga

Stanford

Vanderbilt

Seton Hall

Gonzaga suffered its first loss on the road at Illinois, and it doesn’t get any easier against Michigan State this weekend. 

Stanford had a good win over N.C. State and is off for the next couple of weeks.  Vanderbilt had a tough week with a couple of losses, including a close one at Louisville. 

Seton Hall has continued to impress, including a good home win over Auburn in the Big East/SEC Challenge.

No. 7 Seeds

Minnesota

Arizona

Illinois

Georgetown

Minnesota had a solid week with wins over Virginia Tech and Southern Cal. 

Arizona comes off of a couple of wins last week and looks forward to facing Florida.  Illinois remained perfect by handing Gonzaga its first loss of the season. 

Georgetown got a big road win by defeating Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

No. 8 Seeds

Virginia Tech

Dayton

Memphis

Mississippi State

Virginia Tech had a tough loss in the Big Ten ACC Challenge on the road at Minnesota. 

Dayton's Old Spice Classic win has lost a little of its luster with a couple of losses in a row.  Memphis had a 2-0 week and has an intriguing road game at Miami (Fla.) coming up. 

Mississippi State has now won seven in a row, including a home win over West Virginia.

No. 9 Seeds

Purdue

Creighton

Saint Louis

Virginia

Purdue had an up-and-down week, winning its Big Ten ACC Challenge game over Miami (Fla.) before blowing the big lead to Xavier. 

Creighton remained undefeated by beating in-state rival Nebraska.  Saint Louis had a stumble after winning the 76 Classic, losing to Loyola Marymount. 

Virginia is enjoying a resurgence, having won five in a row and losing just once so far.

No. 10 Seeds

Harvard

Northern Iowa

Indiana

Mississippi

Harvard is still unbeaten but faces a huge test at Connecticut on Thursday. 

Northern Iowa has won six in a row and faces in-state rival Iowa Tuesday.  Indiana got a big road win at North Carolina State and gets ready to face Kentucky this weekend. 

Mississippi has now won four in a row after getting a close win on the road at Penn State.

No. 11 Seeds

Missouri State

San Diego State

Old Dominion

Richmond

Missouri State lost twice last week, including a 16-point defeat on the road at New Mexico. 

San Diego State got a nice home win over California and will play at San Diego.  Old Dominion started its conference season on the road with a win over Northeastern. 

Richmond has now won three in a row, capped by a road win at Wake Forest. 

No. 12 Seeds

George Mason

St. Mary’s

Central Florida

St. Joseph’s

Kansas State

Northwestern

George Mason is on a four-game winning streak but will get a test at Virginia on Tuesday. 

St. Mary’s has won five of its first six and is No. 1 in the current RPI.  Central Florida must continue to play well, and the win over Connecticut will be a big help. 

St. Joseph’s has been down for a couple of years and may be on the way back.  Kansas State is still undefeated and will face a test with a home tilt against West Virginia on Thursday. 

Northwestern suffered its first loss at home to Baylor, shooting only 24 percent for the game.

No. 13 Seeds

Murray State

Ohio

New Mexico State

Cleveland State

Murray State has reeled off nine in a row, including a nice home win over Dayton. 

Ohio is one of the early pacesetters in the MAC, along with Kent State and Toledo.  New Mexico State had a tough week, losing two games. 

Cleveland State has won eight of its first 10, capping the week with a road win over Detroit.

No. 14 Seeds

College of Charleston

Iona

Boston

Long Beach State

College of Charleston has won four straight and is off until a big matchup with Tennessee on the 14th.

Iona won its first two MAAC games of their season, including a 36-point thrashing of Niagara.  Boston is on a four-game winning streak to even its record, and that includes a win over Boston College on Saturday. 

Long Beach State is back over .500, and its non-conference gauntlet continues with a trip to Kansas.

No. 15 Seeds

American

Weber State

Lamar

Denver

American is on a six-game winning streak after losing its first two contests. 

Weber State is looking forward to a matchup with in-state rival BYU on Wednesday.  Lamar is coming off a nice 17-point home win over Louisiana-Lafayette. 

Denver has won six of its first seven, but it faces a test against Iona at home on Wednesday.

No. 16 Seeds

Norfolk State

Alabama A&M

Robert Morris

Oakland

Belmont

Coastal Carolina

Norfolk State started its MEAC season with a close victory over Savannah State.  Alabama A&M has the best record in the SWAC at 2-3 and is off for two weeks before facing Michigan. 

Robert Morris has gotten off to a good start and has a tough test in local rival Duquesne on Tuesday.  Oakland has won six in a row and will get a visit from a good Ohio team on Wednesday. 

Belmont is on a five-game winning streak and has won its first two Atlantic Sun games of the season.  Coastal Carolina also won its first two conference games of the campaign in the Big South.

Last Four In: Central Florida, St. Joseph’s, Kansas State, Northwestern

First Four Out: Indiana State, Oregon State, Brigham Young, Tulane

Next Four Out: Valparaiso, Kent State, Davidson, Oklahoma
