2011 Bowl Schedule: Predicting Every BCS Conference's Postseason Record

Ian HanfordDec 4, 2011

The regular season is over, and the bowl matchups have been announced. Thirty-five bowl games give 70 teams a shot at postseason glory.

Of these 70 squads, 47 come from BCS conferences.

Some of these teams will square off against another BCS foe, and some may face less-reputable teams. Certain conferences will fare better than others as they look to snag bragging rights for their respective groupings.

Here are the predicted records for BCS conferences this postseason.

ACC

1 of 6

Record: 5-3

Winning teams: Clemson, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, North Carolina, Florida State

Losing Teams: Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Virginia

The ACC should have a solid turnout in their bowl matchups this season.

Clemson faces West Virginia in an offensive matchup, but Clemson holds a slight defensive edge over the weaker Big East squad. Georgia Tech should control the ball well enough to knock off the pesky Utes, and Florida State may have the toughest victory against a talented Notre Dame team.

Virginia Tech received a questionable at-large bid, and it will show in their loss to Michigan. Wake Forest and Virginia will also struggle for the ACC.

Big East

2 of 6

Record: 2-3

Winning teams: Rutgers, Cincinnati

Losing teams: West Virginia, Louisville, Pittsburgh

The Big East is the weakest of the BCS conferences, and received five bids to bowl games this season.

Expect West Virginia's below-average defense to be exploited by Clemson in the Orange Bowl. Also, look for Tino Sunseri and Pitt's offense to continue their struggles against an underrated SMU squad.

Louisville will get all they can handle from the Wolfpack of N.C. State and lose a nail biter in the Belk Bowl.

Rutgers will defeat Iowa State and Cincinnati will defeat Vanderbilt to retain some form of dignity for the Big East conference. Neither team is great. Thankfully, neither are Iowa State or Vanderbilt.

Pac-12

3 of 6

Record: 3-4

Winning teams: Oregon, UCLA, California

Losing teams: Stanford, Utah, Washington, Arizona State

The Pac-12 is a two-horse conference led by Stanford and Oregon. Five other squads received bids, but are light years behind the Pac-12 titans.

Oregon's speed will win out in what should be a great Rose Bowl matchup with Wisconsin. UCLA will knock off Illinois in a game to be watched by 11 people, and California will quickly realize Texas doesn't have a functioning quarterback.

Stanford will lose in Andrew Luck's final game as a Cardinal. However, the Fiesta Bowl will have the second-best TV ratings among BCS bowls. Utah will lose a tight game to Georgia Tech, and Washington and Arizona State will continue to show they can't stop anyone on defense.

Big Ten

4 of 6

Record: 4-6

Winning teams: Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue

Losing teams: Wisconsin, Michigan State, Nebraska, Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa

The Big Ten received an honorable ten bids this season, but won't finish the season that well.

Michigan earned a well-deserved BCS bid. They will take advantage of a non-deserving Virginia Tech team for a victory. Ohio State and Penn State will put their offensive troubles behind them for bowl victories over Florida and Houston.

Purdue will win, even though no one knows they are in a bowl game.

Wisconsin is the most talented Big Ten team, but Oregon's team speed will get the best of the Badgers in the Rose Bowl. Michigan State and Nebraska will be bitten by the SEC's dominance, while Illinois continues their epic late-season slide.

Northwestern and Iowa will both lose to the Big 12's biggest underachievers, Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

Big 12

5 of 6

Record: 4-4

Winning teams: Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Baylor

Losing teams: Kansas State, Iowa State, Texas, Missouri

The Big 12 put together a very solid season as a whole.

Oklahoma State will enter the Fiesta Bowl with a huge chip on their shoulder. Expect them to take it out on Stanford's physical, but slow, defense. Texas A&M will end the season on a high note while Oklahoma actually decides to show up for a bowl matchup.

Baylor's Robert Griffin III torches the porous Washington defense in an exciting shootout.

Kansas State's methodical offense will be blinded by Arkansas's team speed. Iowa State realizes their victory over the Cowboys was a fluke, and Texas continues their mediocrity with a loss to the Cal Bears.

Missouri and North Carolina will be very competitive in the Independence Bowl, but the Tigers fall just short.

SEC

6 of 6

Record: 6-3

Winning teams: LSU, Georgia, Arkansas, South Carolina, Auburn, Mississippi State

Losing teams: Alabama, Vanderbilt, Florida

The SEC is the cream of the crop in college football.

LSU will best Alabama yet again in New Orleans, completing their perfect season. Georgia and South Carolina will use their speed to beat up on the blue-collar Big Ten, while Arkansas does the same with Bill Snyder's boys from Manhattan.

Auburn will best the upstart Virginia Cavaliers while Mississippi State beats up on Wake Forest.

Alabama will lose. Not by much, but LSU will outduel the Tide yet again. Vanderbilt and Florida are bowl eligible, but average squads.
