BCS Rankings: 3 Teams That Proved Their Dominance

Ryan RudnanskyDec 4, 2011

There's nothing like ending your season on a high note.

In Week 14 of the college football season, three teams did that and more, thoroughly convincing the nation that they deserved their BCS rankings—and maybe even were ranked too low.

Here are three teams that proved their dominance in Week 14 headed into bowl games.

3. Baylor (9-3)

Baylor's opponent in Week 14, No. 22 Texas, wasn't exactly on top of the food chain, but Robert Griffin III and the Bears absolutely destroyed the Longhorns 48-24.

Baylor's defense has been suspect all season long, but the offense, led by a Heisman candidate in Griffin, has been outstanding, averaging 43.1 points headed into Week 14.

Griffin passed for 320 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Longhorns, adding two scores on the ground.

Baylor has been a huge surprise this season, and a lot of that has to do with Griffin.

2. Oklahoma State (11-1)

Oklahoma State's double-overtime loss to unranked Iowa State crippled its chances of reaching the title game, but the Cowboys took revenge on No. 10 Oklahoma in Week 14, leading 41-3 not even three quarters through the game.

Oklahoma State's offense has been spectacular this season, led by the best quarterback-running back tandem in college football, Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon.

Headed into Week 14, the Cowboys were averaging 49.8 points per game, second in the nation, and that took revenge on in-state rival Oklahoma.

1. LSU (13-0)

The No. 1 team in the country was actually trailing 10-7 at the half in Week 14 against No. 14 Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

Then LSU exploded.

The Tigers outscored Georgia 35-0 the rest of the way en route to a 42-10 victory and a guarantee to be featured in the title game.

The LSU defense forced three turnovers, one a 45-yard interception returned for a touchdown. Cornerback Tyrann Mathieu returned a punt for a 62-yard touchdown. And the rushing attack totaled 207 yards.

So much for anyone in the country defeating LSU this season.

I expect the Tigers to win again against No. 2 Alabama in the National Championship Game.
