Georgia vs. LSU: Which Underclassmen Should Enter the 2012 Draft?

Jordan CalfeeDec 3, 2011

With the Georgia Bulldogs and LSU Tigers coming together this afternoon in the SEC Championship Game, there will be a number of future NFL players showcasing their talent. And in this matchup, a number of the potential prospects are underclassmen.

As the season comes to a close, these players have to make tough decisions as to whether they want to leave for the NFL or remain in college to boost their stock and gain experience. Here are four of the top underclassmen prospects in the 2011 SEC Championship Game, and whether or not they should enter the 2012 NFL Draft.

Morris Claiborne, Cornerback, LSU Tigers

1 of 4

Despite the fact that his counterpart at cornerback for the LSU Tigers Tyrann Mathieu often gets the spotlight, Morris Claiborne is the better defensive back according to professional scouts.

Claiborne has been stifling in coverage the last two seasons. He was targeted often last season when he played opposite Patrick Peterson, and subsequently recorded five interceptions. He has already matched that number this season despite Peterson's absence.

From what most people are saying, Claiborne will be a first-round draft pick, and perhaps even go in the top 10. As such, he has nothing to gain from playing another year in college.

Orson Charles, Tight End, Georgia Bulldogs

2 of 4

Orson Charles has been victimizing the Georgia Bulldogs' opponents since the start of the season, when he posted six catches for 109 yards and a touchdown against the Boise State Broncos.

The Georgia tight end has recorded career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns this season. With two games left, he already has 40 catches for 530 yards and five touchdowns.

With his excellent speed (for a 230 pound tight end), solid hands, and good route running ability, Charles will likely be a second-round draft pick if he leaves for the NFL (which he probably should).

Rueben Randle, Wide Receiver, LSU Tigers

3 of 4

Wide receiver Rueben Randle has had a breakout season in 2011 for the LSU Tigers, catching 48 balls for 889 yards and eight touchdowns after only catching five touchdowns in his first two years at LSU combined.

Randle has good but not elite speed, but his size at 6'4'' is a huge plus. His hands have looked much better this year.

Despite his impressive season, NFL scouts have yet to say much about Randle. Wth his talent, athleticism, and ball skills, one would have to imagine he'd be drafted, but his stock could probably go up a considerable amount with another year's experience in college.

Jarvis Jones, Linebacker, Georgia Bulldogs

4 of 4

Jarvis Jones has had an interesting career with the Georgia Bulldogs. After recording 13 tackles as a true freshman in limited playing time, he decided to sit out last season to get himself together.

When he returned this season, he did so with a vengeance. He's recorded 66 tackles on the season, and he's second in the country with 13.5 sacks.

According to most analysts, Jones is considered to be around a second-round draft pick. However, with only one season as a college starter under his belt, he should probably stick around for another year at Georgia.
