LSU vs. Alabama: 5 Reasons Bama Will Win National Title Rematch

John BradfordDec 1, 2011

Much to the chagrin of some, it looks like Alabama will get another shot. If things go as expected, it will be Alabama and LSU in a rematch for the National Championship.

This is the type of matchup that could be played over and over again without determining the best team. LSU pulled out the first one, but Alabama certainly had their chances.

Let's look at five reasons while Alabama will win a National Title rematch.

Alabama Outplayed LSU

1 of 5

The first meeting between the two teams could’ve gone either way and many believe that the best team didn’t win.

Alabama out-gained LSU in the game 295 to 239. Additionally, a Michael Williams catch, turned Eric Reid interception could have iced the game.

Alabama has their chance to prove who the best team is. In a game that is this evenly matched, can LSU really pull out two in a row?

Better Handling of Kickers

2 of 5

Everyone loves to put the blame on the kickers for Alabama. Sure, they aren’t Groza Award contenders by any stretch. The truth is though, that they were mishandled this season.

For a great part of the season Nick Saban was unable to accept his kickers’ limitations. Jeremy Shelley is a very respectable 16 for 18 on field goals under 40 yards. However, he has missed both attempts from 40 or deeper, and Cade Foster has made two of seven.

Saban magnified his kickers' weaknesses by asking them to make kicks they weren’t capable of making. In recent weeks though, Saban has begun to play the percentages by punting or going for it on long field goal situations.

Revenge Factor

3 of 5

There was a lot of talk prior to the first matchup about Nick Saban’s success in “revenge games.” That success didn’t continue, but a rematch against LSU would be a poignant reminder of his teams past failures.

No coach in the country is more driven than Saban and you can bet that his team will have redemption on their mind.

Quarterback Experience

4 of 5

The difference in the first game was, believe it or not, the steady hand of Jordan Jefferson. Alabama may have thrown for more yards but Jefferson made the plays down the stretch that A. J. McCarron couldn’t.

To be fair though, Jefferson’s big game experience far exceeded that of McCarron. As a young quarterback, McCarron has had more time to develop and will have a month to look at things he can improve on.

With more consistent quarterback play, Alabama will be able to finish the drives that stalled in the first game.

Time to Prepare

5 of 5

Nick Saban is the most meticulous and, perhaps, obsessive preparer in College Football. Give Saban a month to prepare and he can put a perfect game plan together.

If there is a weakness of LSU’s to exploit, or one of his own team that he can fix, he will find it. That, coupled with a motivated team, should be all the Tide needs.
