Michigan State Cheerleader Video: Watch Horrific Accident During Hoops Game
Well, first things first. Jeff Eisenberg of Yahoo Sports is reporting that Taylor Young is OK. Young is the 20-year-old cheerleader seen in the video that took a rather nasty fall. So, after seeing that video, hearing that she's OK is the only thing that really matters.
I have to say that I am amazed this doesn't happen more. I know that these cheerleaders practice hard and are very good at what they do, but plenty of opportunities exist for some rather horrific things to happen. Every now and again, they do. Thankfully, it doesn't happen more.
Compared to some other things I have seen, this was a relatively tame trick. It was a freak accident, which happens in life.

I will, however, say that I hold my breath every time I go to a high school game and see a cheerleader get tossed up in the air. They are usually on a track. If anything in that goes slightly wrong, there is a distinct possibility for a nasty injury, or worse.
Now, is there a safety precaution? Short of just not doing things like this, none come immediately to my mind.
But while I am not suggesting that these tricks be banned, I need to say this.
The last thing you want to see when you are watching a game is an injury. The more serious the injury, the worse it is, obviously.
Still, it's obviously a possibility and something of a reality in just about every game we watch.
It doesn't have to be a reality for anyone other than the players. Right now, we can just be thankful that no serious injury came from this and hope that the right people are taking steps to be sure that this never happens again.
