5 Reasons It's Amazingly Easy to Be a Laker Fan
I have always said it is easy to be a Laker fan.
I do not say this negatively, but I do believe it wholeheartedly.
I have heard every excuse in the book as to why this is not true, and to be honest, not one has disproved my proclamation.
Lakers are never considered the underdog or out of the playoff picture for too long.
What really got me thinking was Lebron's decision to come to Miami. As a true Heat fan, I have been through some good years and some bad years.
I have been through a 15-win season, but I also experienced a championship in 2006. I really never knew what to expect from year to year, and to be honest, I liked that feeling as I cheered just as hard for the 2006 championship team that I did for the weak 2008 team.
Now, with this championship-or-bust attitude that has been instilled upon us, there is a lot more negative press and skepticism surrounding my beloved Heat.
Lakers fans are disappointed when their team doesn't make it to the finals. They are not fans of excuses and do not find continuous losing acceptable.
I just want Lakers fans to realize just how good they have it and not to take it for granted.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but here are a few reasons I believe being a Lakers fan is one of the easiest things to be in the world.
Always Contenders, Always Relevant
1 of 5In the last decade I don't remember a time where the Lakers were not favored to come out the Western Conference.
Despite what other teams do around them, it seems as though no other team will compare with the Lakers in the West at the beginning of every season.
Despite the Mavericks winning the championship, I guarantee you that NBA players would rather see the Mavs than the Lakers this year in the playoffs.
They are the most feared and experienced team in the NBA, besides maybe the Celtics, but they may be getting too old to contend in the up and coming East.
The Lakers are considered contenders year in and year out. If they have one bad year, be sure that some changes will be made in order for them to contend once again.
You thought they were out of it when they lost Shaq, and we saw what happened there.
Kobe is getting older, yes. But I assure you, Jerry Buss still has some tricks in his back pocket.
Big City
2 of 5The city of Los Angles is the perfect place for a team like the Lakers to play.
The fast paced culture, the bright lights, and the court side stars all coincide with the classic purple and gold the Lakers boast at Staples.
Some of the biggest names grace Staples Center with their presence in order to watch the Lakers play, whether they are on a five-game win streak or a two-game losing streak (which is rare).
LA is the place to be, both on and off the court.
Always Attracts Superstars
3 of 5Because of all the attractions of LA, the history behind the Lakers franchise, along with a multitude of other things, the Lakers are always able to attract superstars to their team.
Just think about some of the great players who have worn purple and gold over the past decade including Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Karl Malone, Pau Gasol and Gary Payton.
For the most part, who the Lakers want, they get, and this is pretty scary considering the fact that they are now in pursuit of Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Rashard Lewis and Baron Davis.
The Lakers' roster could be looking quite different when the season starts, we will have to see what Jerry Buss has up his sleeve.
Popular Team
4 of 5You always hear Lakers fans proclaim that they are the most hated team in the NBA. This may be true, but they are also the most popular franchise in the history of the NBA.
You will never see more away team jerseys in the stands than when you go to an away Lakers game.
There are a solid number of Lakers fans in every state. Kobe Bryant has received MVP chants away from the Staples Center, another testimony to the number of Lakers fans not only nationwide, but all over the world.
It is easy to like what is popular. Fans new to the game often times quickly side with the Lakers, as they don't know any better—they just consider it normal.
You will not have to search far to find a Lakers fan—no matter where you go.
Historic Franchise
5 of 5This is no secret, the Lakers are often considered one, if not the greatest, franchises in the history of the NBA.
This makes sense considering the number of championships the Lakers have and all the great playoffs they have been involved in.
A Lakers player serves as the NBA logo—that says it all right there.
Lakers jerseys can be recognized across the globe.
If somebody only knows one team from the NBA, I can almost guarantee you that 90 percent of the time they know the Lakers.
Many of the greatest players to ever play the game of basketball were Lakers.
At the end of every season, no matter how the Lakers fare, fans can always fall back on the historic history of the beloved franchise.
Think about how many times you have heard Lakers fans boast about all the championships the Lakers have won, despite only watching basketball for three years.
It's just what Laker fans do.
