Georgia vs. LSU Football: 3 Keys to Bulldogs Pulling Major Upset over Tigers

Everyone seems to have already written off Georgia in the SEC Championship game. The Bulldogs may have something to say about that.

They have won every single game since the second week of the season and their defense has given up fewer than 20 points in eight games this season.

So what do they have to do to pull off the huge upset? Here are the three big things that need to happen.

Win the Turnover Battle

LSU leads the nation in turnover margin and it is how the Tigers score a lot of their points, directly or indirectly. If Georgia is going to have any chance whatsoever in this game it has to force turnovers while holding onto the ball itself.

Assuming the defense comes to play, this could be a very low-scoring game and an interception or fumble recovery could completely change the momentum of the game.

Alabama nearly beat LSU earlier in the season but a red-zone turnover doomed the Tide’s hopes. Things like that can’t happen in order for Georgia to win.

Stay Fresh on Defense

The most difficult part of stopping LSU is staying rested. The Tigers mercilessly pound away with the ground game and they have a full stable of running backs to go at it with.

Georgia can go about it a number of ways—holding the ball on offense for longer, forcing three-and-outs or getting quality play out of the backups—but if the defensive front seven become too exhausted to play, the game is as good as done.

Play Smart

LSU is good enough that Georgia will need a flawless game to win so playing smart is an absolute must.

It applies to every facet of the game and only a team effort will be enough to push Georgia past LSU.

That means the Bulldogs can’t hurt themselves with penalties or dropped passes and they’ll have to take points when they can get them.
