NBA Free Agents 2011: Best Defensive Guards on the Market

Matt ShetlerNov 29, 2011

Every fan of every NBA team likes the sexy, big-named free-agent signings, but those guys don't always produce championships.

You can score as many points as you want, but the good teams are the ones that can shut you down defensively as well, especially on the perimeter.

While all the big names will fly off the board early when free agency begins, here are four guys who could turn out to be steals.

These guys are the four best defensive free-agent guards on the market.

4. Sasha Vujacic

He's intense and disciplined on the defensive end of the floor. Vujacic is a great face-up defender and hustles to make plays on the defensive end.

3. Anthony Carter

He's 36 years old and doesn't look like much of an athlete, but he has a knack for keeping athletic point guards in front of him. He's also capable of defending two-guards as well. Putting him on a good shooter is no problem.

2. Arron Affalo

He's excellent at defending guards in the post because of his strength and he has solid lateral quickness to stay in front of quick guards. He's one of the most underrated players on the market.

1. DeShawn Stevenson

Don't underestimate the impact that Stevenson's defensive ability had on Dallas winning a ring last season. He can matchup man-to-man on any guard in the league and do an effective job.
