BCS Bowl Projections: Andrew Luck and Stars Who Will Lead Teams to BCS Glory

Tim DanielsNov 29, 2011

Football is the ultimate team game but superstars still tend to steal the show. Fans love watching players with elite talent show off their skills on a national stage. Here are three Heisman Trophy candidates that will do just that in BCS bowls.

Andrew Luck—Stanford

Luck has been the Heisman favorite since spring practices and is the projected top pick in next April's NFL Draft. The senior quarterback has thrown 35 touchdowns and has run for two more while guiding the Cardinal to an 11-1 record.

A loss to Oregon means they won't be playing in the Pac-12 title game, but a No. 4 BCS ranking should ensure them an at-large bid. Fellow high-powered offense Oklahoma State is expected to be waiting for a Fiesta Bowl clash.

That's a shootout waiting to happen, which will allow Luck to showcase his amazing talent to scouts one last time before heading to the pros.

Montee Ball—Wisconsin

It's a bit surprising that Ball hasn't received more national attention this season. He's gained more than 1,600 yards and totaled 34 touchdowns with two games left to play. All that while playing for a Wisconsin team that's been in the BCS hunt.

The junior has scored at least twice in every game, which puts him in rarefied air that only quarterbacks usually reach. Maybe a Rose Bowl clash with Oregon, which also loves posting eye-popping numbers, will finally allow him to get some respect.

But first, Ball and his Badger teammates have to get some revenge against Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship Game. His 139 total yards and two touchdowns weren't enough in their October meeting.

Case Keenum—Houston

Keenum has been nearly flawless all season, throwing just three interceptions to go along with 43 touchdowns. Even though he's not facing an SEC schedule, that's still an impressive accomplishment that deserves some Heisman consideration.

He's led Houston to a 12-0 record, which puts the Cougars within one game of claiming a BCS spot. Not many people saw that coming in late August but other than a few early tests, they have been on cruise control most of the year.

The Cougars are big favorites against Southern Mississippi in their Conference USA title clash. The BCS is always more intriguing with a David vs. Goliath matchup, so look for Keenum to dominate once again to make that possible.
