BCS Rankings: Ranked Teams That Will Flop in Week 14

Ryan RudnanskyNov 28, 2011

Being a ranked team is respectable in its own right, but it's how you do against other ranked teams that really separates you from the rest of the pack.

In Week 14 of the college football season, there are three matchups in particular that will see ranked teams fall to better opponents.

Here are three ranked teams that will flop in Week 14.

3. Oklahoma (No. 10)

Oklahoma was ranked No. 3 in the nation as recently as Week 8, but the Sooners have fallen since after losses to unranked Texas Tech and Robert Griffin III and the Baylor Bears.

The Sooners are still an impressive team, led by quarterback Landry Jones, a solid rushing game and a good defense, but they won't be any match for the high-powered offense of the No. 3 Oklahoma State Cowboys in Week 14.

The Cowboys did just get upset by unranked Iowa State, but I still think their offense will be too much to handle at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Expect in-state rival Oklahoma to fall to Oklahoma State and fall out of the Top 10 in the process.

2. Georgia (No. 14)

Some believe Georgia will give No. 1 LSU a run for its money with a top-25 offense and an improved defense, but I just don't see how anyone can stop the Tigers at this point.

LSU is by far the best team in college football, especially after its defeat of No. 2 Alabama and blowout of then-No. 3 Arkansas in Week 13.

LSU's defense is scary good, led by cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, and the running game is almost impossible to stop.

Georgia's offense won't look as explosive after meeting up with LSU in the SEC Championship Game.

1. Clemson (No. 20)

This is a Cinderella story that hasn't looked so fantastical in recent weeks.

The Clemson Tigers, led by quarterback Tajh Boyd, had gotten by for most of the season with a rolling offense, but when that offense faltered, down went the Tigers.

The Tigers haven't had a good defense all season long and that showed in the last two weeks when they lost by a combined score of 71-26 to unranked North Carolina State and South Carolina.

No. 5 Virginia Tech has the defense to limit Clemson, and while the Hokies lost to Clemson early in the season, they've gotten better while the Tigers have gotten worse.

In the Dr. Pepper ACC Championship Game, expect Clemson to fizzle and Virginia Tech to sizzle.
