BCS Rankings: Why Alabama vs. LSU Rematch Is a Must for National Championship

Eric BowmanNov 28, 2011

The BCS National Championship Game is all about putting the best two teams against each other, and there is no question that the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide are the nation's top teams. These two must meet for a rematch with the title on the line because it would settle all arguments.

While the BCS rankings frustrate a number of teams and fans, it's easy to see they did at least one thing right by putting LSU and Alabama at No. 1 and No. 2.

Every year there are teams that feel they should have had a shot at the title game, which is why a cry for a playoff continues to be made.

In 2011, the top two teams are LSU and Alabama, and no other team even comes close. If these two teams don't play for the title then once again, after the season is over, the arguments for who is the best will never end.

The Tigers have a right to say they're the best because of their perfect record. Having barely beaten the Crimson Tide though, a rematch would settle things for sure.

Of course, some don't want a rematch because the first go-around wasn't all that intriguing. I blame the hype that led up to the game, but still, there is no denying that these two teams are the best and they would make for a great game.

Fans often bash the BCS for messing up the rankings and never truly getting the two preeminent teams to battle it out for the title, but that is what will happen this season.

It's time to put the bias aside and realize LSU and Alabama are the greatest teams college football has to offer right now. You may hate the SEC all you want, but you'd be blind and naïve to say those two teams are the best in the country.

I get that people want change and for the title game to be two different teams, but for so long the public has been outraged that the two best teams never get a chance to play each other for the all the marbles.

We know who the top teams are, and that is why a rematch is a must.

You can argue all day about how a team that didn't win its conference shouldn't deserve to play for the title game. That has shafted a few teams in the past, but the bottom line is, the title game should feature the clear-cut No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the land, and LSU and Alabama have separated themselves from all other teams.

Those that claim a rematch wouldn't be exciting are way off. Both teams have grown a lot since the first time they met, and the offenses will definitely shine on the big stage.

Forget about their first meeting because it has cast a cloud over what is truly important: LSU and Alabama are better than everyone else, and they both deserve to be in the title game.
