BCS Bowl Projections: Georgia Bulldogs Will Add to SEC BCS Bowl Mix

If you ask a majority of college football fans or followers which conference is the best, you’re going to get an overwhelming response that it’s the SEC. They will see two of their teams play in the BCS National Championship Game this year, and could see an unprecedented three teams in the BCS. 

Just think, if the Georgia Bulldogs upset the LSU Tigers this Saturday in the SEC Championship Game it will give Georgia an automatic bid in the Sugar Bowl. 

The rules in the BCS state that only two teams from a BCS-recognized conference can make a BCS Bowl game. However, as you will see, a conference can get three teams in if No. 1 and No. 2 in the final standings are from the same conference.

With LSU so far ahead of teams like Oklahoma State, Stanford and Virginia Tech, a loss in the conference championship game would keep them in the BCS Championship Game against Alabama. These teams will be No. 1 and No. 2, and both will get at-large bids. 

In the history of the BCS, there hasn’t been a situation where three teams from the same conference play in these bowl games. At most, there were two teams from the Big Ten, SEC and Big 12 that made it into a BCS game. But with the way the SEC has a hold on the top two spots, it will give them this record. 

This SEC dream scenario can and will happen with a Bulldogs win in the SEC Championship Game. 

LSU looks as near to a perfect team in college football this year. However, if Georgia can shut down LSU’s rushing attack, forcing them to use their passing game, it will result in Georgia pulling off the upset of the year.

Not only will the Bulldogs take the SEC Champion’s spot in the Sugar Bowl, but it will eliminate an at-large bid for a team on the fence of making a BCS Bowl game, like Michigan or Boise State. 

SEC’s dream scenario could become a reality very soon. Out of five BCS Bowl games, the SEC could have three teams playing.
