Bowl Projections: Alabama Playing for National Title Proves BCS Is a Joke
What would you think if a team that did not win its conference is making it to the national championship?
Well, the Alabama Crimson Tide did not even win their division and are still somehow going to be playing for the national title.
This is absurd.
The consensus No. 1 team in the nation, the LSU Tigers, has every right to play in the BCS National Championship Game, but the Tigers should not be forced to rematch a team that everyone already watched them beat during the regular season.
There are plenty of other one-loss teams out there more deserving to have a shot at the best, including Oklahoma State, Stanford and Virginia Tech. And then there's the only other undefeated team, Houston.
These four teams are all within percentage points of ‘Bama in the computer rankings and within a few rankings in the human polls. Unfortunately, because they don’t play in the SEC, they don’t get respect.
Which is stupid.
Oklahoma State had the 10th-most difficult strength of schedule in the nation, the highest of any team that is BCS bound.
What was Alabama’s strength of schedule?
Thirty-eight.
Oklahoma State lost to a team with the No. 26-most difficult schedule in the nation, Iowa State.
Everything points to the fact the Pokes should be playing the Tigers for the national championship, and America should not be subjected to a ridiculous rematch of the most boring and anticlimactic field-goal kicking contest played this season.
And by that I mean an LSU vs. Alabama national championship.
OK State would give LSU a run for its money and it would put a top defense up against a top offense in an exciting title game. Instead, we will have to sit through two overwhelming defenses stymie two terrible offenses.
There’s nothing fun or exciting about that and the fact these teams don’t even deserve to play one another again just proves the BCS is a biased, worn-out joke of a system.
