Bowl Projections: Sugar Bowl Poised to Be Worst BCS Bowl Game
The Sugar Bowl is shaping up to be a real snoozer.
As the pieces to the BCS puzzle continue to fall into place, it looks like fans will be getting a No. 16 Michigan team playing No. 6 Houston down in New Orleans.
Garbage!
The Cougars are undefeated and have steamrolled every opponent in their way. They deserve to play a top-10 team to show the world they are in fact one of the best teams in the sport (in a perfect world they would be in the championship game, but we all know that's not going to happen), and drawing the Wolverines would be a slap in the face.
The Wolverines still have some work left to do that is completely out of their control. They will be ousted from this game if No. 15 Wisconsin loses to No. 13 Michigan State in the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game. That would bump Michigan out of the picture. Another scenario to bump them out of the game is if No. 14 Georgia some how beats the juggernaut No. 1-ranked LSU Tigers.
Assuming these scenarios don't happen, the Wolverines would slide in because of the all-SEC matchup in the championship game. I would much rather see Houston play a two-loss team like No. 4 Stanford, No. 10 Oklahoma or Georgia.
They are the cream of the crop talent-wise in college football and watching them match up against Case Keenum would be a real treat. Millions of NFL dollars hang in the balance.
The Wolverines are the beneficiaries of a soft Big Ten schedule. They have played a grand total of two teams that were ranked when they played. They sport a 24-16 loss to a mediocre Iowa team. QB Denard Robinson makes Tim Tebow look like the greatest pocket passer in history.
The Cougars' high-powered offense would be able to torch a Wolverines defense that is a deceivingly high ninth in the nation in points allowed (17.2) that has feasted on the slow Big Ten like a Thanksgiving meal.
Speed kills and Houston has it, while the Michigan defense doesn't.
Dear BCS,
Please give Houston a better opponent to show the world its worth rather than an overrated Michigan team that has no business being in a BCS bowl game.
Signed, college football fans not located in Ann Arbor.
