BCS Bowl Predictions: Who's In, Who's out and Who's on the Fence?

T.J. McaloonNov 27, 2011

With one week remaining left in the college football season there are a number of teams that are fighting for a spot in one of the BCS bowl games.

With only eight spots open in the four BCS bowl games and two spots open in the championship game, teams are doing their best to either win their conference championship games or gain an at-large bids.

Which teams are in, out and on the fence as we head into the last week for the ability to move around in the BCS Standings

In: Stanford Cardinal

1 of 5

With Stanford's dominating performance over Notre Dame, the Cardinal solidified their position as a team that will make a BCS bowl game. Stanford should be one of the first teams selected for an at-large bid when the BCS bowls are filled out.

Having the Cardinal in a BCS bowl game will bring in a high television ratings, as it could be Stanford's quarterback Andrew Luck's last game before heading to the NFL.

Out: Arkansas Razorbacks

2 of 5

Arkansas had its small window closed shut by the LSU Tigers last week. If the Razorbacks would have been able to dethrone the No. 1 team in the country, they would have kept their BCS chances alive. However, after their 41-17 loss they will miss out on cashing in on a BCS bowl game.

On the Fence: Boise State Broncos

3 of 5

Boise State may be the odd team out of the non-BCS recognized schools. The Broncos sit at No. 7 in the latest BCS Standings and are ahead of Houston. However, Houston can lock up a spot in a BCS Bowl game with a win in the Conference USA Championship game, while Boise will have to be picked by the BCS committee to make it in.

They could get passed over if Oklahoma State loses to Oklahoma, or if the BCS committee picks a two loss team like Michigan or Kansas State over Boise State.

In: Oklahoma State Cowboys

4 of 5

If they win their final game against Oklahoma on Saturday the Cowboys will clinch the Big 12 conference championship. However, because they are so highly ranked in the computer portion of the BCS they will still get into a BCS bowl game even with a loss.

On the Fence: Kansas State Wildcats

5 of 5

Kansas State may be the odd team out of the Big 12. If Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State that will give the Big 12 two teams in a BCS bowl game. However, if Oklahoma State can take care of Oklahoma it opens the door to Kansas State to take one of the At-Large bids.

If Kansas State can finish at 10-2 they will find themselves in the Top 10 in the final BCS Standings.

The computers love Kansas State as they rank fifth. However, the Harris and USA Today polls have the Wildcats at No. 13 and 15, respectively.

This was just a small list of teams that are In, Out and On the fence in making a BCS bowl game. A lot can happen between now and next Sunday. As nothing is final until the last BCS Standings are released on December 4th.
