Urban Meyer to Ohio State Rumors: 3 Reasons He Shouldn't Wait Any Longer

William PenfieldNov 27, 2011

Urban Meyer to Ohio State has been the hot rumor for the past week in the college football world, despite his repeated denial that he has been offered the job.

Say whatever you want, Urban, but your request to stay off the air on ESPN this weekend during its college football programming doesn't exactly fit into your denial.

Both sides should just get this over with and get the deal done already so we can finally turn rumor into reality.

Ohio States' Season Is Virtually over

1 of 3

With its first loss to Michigan in seven years yesterday, Ohio States' season is virtually over.

They sit at 6-6 and although they are bowl eligible, they are not guaranteed a bid. However, they will more than likely get one due to the prestige of the program.

Even if they do get a bid to a bowl game it will not be anything better than the toilet bowl, so why wait to announce Urban Meyer's deal?

It has been reported that he will keep Luke Fickell on the staff, so it is not as if having Fickell coach the game would be unproductive as he will be gaining valuable experience with the young players on this Ohio State team.

Put Rumors to Rest

With the rumors already out there it would be wise for the university to make the announcement official—if there is one to be made, of course.

Each time Meyer is asked about it he has to deny the rumors and it will only make him look bad in the long run the more he has to deny the rumors.

There is no sense in keeping this on the hush hush until after Ohio State plays in the toilet bowl in about a month or so.

Be Fair to Luke Fickell

3 of 3

For just over a week now Luke Fickell has had to listen to rumors about Urban Meyer taking his job after just one year at the helm of the Ohio State Buckeyes football program.

It may not be fair, but it is probably the direction the university will go.

That being said, the university owes Fickell the courtesy of letting him know his fate sooner rather than later.

For all we know they could have already told him behind closed doors, but if they haven't then Fickell deserves to know whether he will still have his job come next season.
