BCS Rankings: 3 Victories That Will Propel Teams in Bowl Games

Ryan RudnanskyNov 27, 2011

There's nothing like a solid win at the end of the season headed into a bowl game.

Remember, it's not how you start; it's how you finish.

Three teams in particular came away with resounding victories in Week 13 that will have them winning their respective bowl game matchups.

Here are three teams that will blow through their bowl games.

3. Houston (12-0, 8-0 C-USA)

Just because Houston blew through a weak conference doesn't mean it doesn't deserve to go to a BCS bowl game.

The Cougars were averaging a nation-best 52.7 points per game headed into Friday's matchup with Tulsa. Then they proceeded to win via blowout, 48-16, and quarterback Case Keenum was once again spectacular.

Keenum went on to throw for 457 yards and five touchdowns.

Houston will likely face Michigan in the Sugar Bowl and I expect the Cougars to show just how dangerous they can be, regardless of the level of competition.

2. Virginia Tech (11-1, 7-1 ACC)

The Hokies lost just one game to Clemson this season.

They are backed by a strong defense and a capable offense sporting junior running back David Wilson.

The Hokies defeated a ranked team in Georgia Tech on Nov. 10 and they have a chance to topple Clemson in the final week of the college football season.

I see the Hokies advancing to the Orange Bowl and defeating whoever comes out of the Big East.

1. LSU (12-0, 8-0 SEC)

What else can you say about LSU?

Their vaunted defense limited an Arkansas team averaging 37.4 points per game to 17 points on Saturday.

Their running game continues to be dominant, adding 286 rushing yards against the Razorbacks.

And receiver Rueben Randle has been outstanding.

LSU is undeniably the best team in the nation right now, going undefeated and beating the likes of Oregon, Mississippi State, Florida, Auburn and Alabama.

The Tigers are like the Green Bay Packers of college football: it's hard to see anyone beating them at this point.
