NBA Free Agents: Where the Top 5 Centers Will Sign

Brian MaziqueNov 26, 2011

Quality big men are the hardest players to find, especially in free agency. Most centers that have talent are coveted by their former team. For one reason or another, these group of players have been set free by their previous team.

There are no stars here, but there are at least four legitimate starters. Here are the top five centers available through free agency and where they will land.

5. Samuel Dalembert

Dalembert is a defender and a shot blocker, but he has limited offensive skill. If a team already has adequate scoring but is looking to shore up their interior defense and add a shot blocker, Dalembert is a good add.

Projected Landing Spot:

Miami Heat

4. Tyson Chandler

Many people have over valued Chandler. Don't get me wrong, he is a nice defensive center who offers just a bit more offense than Dalembert. Chandler is a smart defender and a good shot blocker, but he has received a bit too much love for his association with the champs.

Projected Landing Spot:

Dallas Mavericks

3. DeAndre Jordan

Jordan is the most athletic center in the NBA, sans Dwight Howard of course. Jordan has the potential to be dominant, he has shown some flashes, but he will never reach that level alongside Blake Griffin.

The Clippers would have to deal Kaman to keep Jordan, but I don't think they will do that because it makes too much sense when you look at their ages.

Projected Landing Spot:

Charlotte Bobcats

2. Marc Gasol

Gasol is the most skilled of all the big men, but he is also the least athletic. A big body center that can make the 15 footer and take up space in the middle.

Memphis loves their team, and they will do what they can to keep it together.

Projected Landing Spot:

Memphis Grizzlies

1. Nene

Nene is also a bit overrated, but he is the best center available. That is not to be confused with a franchise big man. He is a solid low post scorer, defender and an above average passer.

I can't see Nene moving along and getting himself the type of payday he can get from the Nuggets.

Projected Landing Spot:

Denver Nuggets
