BCS Bowl Predictions: Oklahoma State vs Houston Would Be Dream Matchup
Lovers of offense everywhere should be praying for a matchup between No. 4 Oklahoma State and No. 8 Houston in the 2012 Fiesta Bowl.
After the Cowboys (likely) blew their shot at the BCS title game, it became apparent that the football gods are aligning a shootout of epic proportions.
Although they are lacking in other areas, the Cowboys and Cougars have the nation's best passing attacks by far.
Houston is the highest scoring team in the country, averaging an absurd 52.7 points per game. They've scored at least 35 in every one of their 12 victories. They even dropped 73 points twice this season. That's just insane.
Oklahoma State is right behind them, putting up 49.8 per game. The 10-1 Cowboys have scored at least 31 in every game and, just for the record, did it against much stiffer competition than Houston.
Houston's potent offense is led by Case Keenum, who is first in the country in passing yards (4,726) and touchdowns (43).
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden has been just as impressive this season. He's currently second in the nation in yards (4,111) and third in touchdowns (34).
Keenum's top target is senior Patrick Edwards. Edwards leads the nation with 18 touchdown catches and is second with 1,496 receiving yards.
Weeden has the pleasure of throwing to Justin Blackmon, who would be the best pro prospect on the field. Blackmon is eighth in receiving yards (1,241) and third in touchdown catches (15).
Both defenses are decent, but nowhere near capable of slowing one of these offenses.
If Oklahoma State and Houston play each other, I will be giddy. Cornerbacks will get embarrassed on nearly every play. Keenum and Weeden will shatter Fiesta Bowl records. And the scorekeeper might shoot himself in the face.
This game needs to happen.
