BCS Rankings: Michigan Will Rise to Top 10 After Beating Buckeyes
The Michigan Wolverines beat Ohio State for the first time since 2003, and their reward will be a spot in the Top 10 of the BCS rankings.
Denard Robinson was phenomenal in the 40-34 victory, showing why many people thought he was a preseason Heisman frontrunner.
The dual threat quarterback threw for as many touchdowns (three) as incompletions.
He also ran for 170 yards and two scores, giving him 337 total yards and five touchdowns.
The win gives Michigan another line on their BCS resume. They've only beat one ranked team, but it's impossible to ignore 10 wins in a power conference.
Despite giving up 34 points to OSU, the Wolverines defense has been excellent this season. Coming into this week, they had allowed just 15.6 points per game (sixth in nation).
With Robinson and Fitzgerald Toussaint, the Wolverines also have one of the country's best rushing attacks. Only 11 teams average more rushing yards per game than Michigan (236.1).
Six two-loss teams are ranked higher than Michigan in the BCS, but that will change when the new standings are released on Sunday.
They won't surpass rival Michigan State, but the Wolverines will leapfrog a few teams in the final regular season rankings.
Since the Spartans also won this week, Michigan won't be playing in the first ever Big Ten championship game.
But with a 10-2 record, the Wolverines can make a legit Top 10 argument.
