BCS Bowl Predictions: Oklahoma State vs. Arkansas Is Ideal Sugar Bowl Matchup
Oklahoma State and Arkansas would be the ideal matchup for the Sugar Bowl this season because both teams would score a ton of points due to their exciting passing offenses. The Cowboys' offensive weapons, such as wide receiver Justin Blackmon, versus the Arkansas speed and athleticism on defense would create an ultra exciting game.
An SEC team has played in the Sugar Bowl every year since 2001, and under the current BCS rules, the Sugar Bowl is supposed to host the SEC champion unless that team plays in the BCS championship game.
Having a strong offense from the Big 12 play against a top SEC team would be a dream matchup for fans of both schools and neutrals.
Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden is a Heisman Trophy candidate and leads the second-ranked passing defense in the nation, averaging 401.6 yards through the air per game. Oklahoma State is also second in the nation in points scored per game with 49.2, and they have scored more than 60 points in three games this season.
Arkansas has their own explosive passing attack led by quarterback Tyler Wilson. Wilson leads the 11th-best passing game in the nation, averaging 307.8 yards through the air per game. The Razorbacks also find the end zone with great regularity, scoring 37.4 points per game, which is 14th best in the nation.
Wilson and the Razorbacks offense would have little trouble scoring on the Cowboys defense. For all the points Oklahoma State has scored this season, they have given up a significant amount as well. The Cowboys have allowed 24 points or more eight times this season and 30 or more points three times. This is not typical of a top team, but their offense is so good that it doesn't matter if the defense struggles.
The Sugar Bowl is always an exciting game, and having the Cowboys and Razorbacks play each other would result in a high-scoring matchup that would be awesome to watch.
Arkansas lost in the Sugar Bowl to Ohio State last season and will want a chance to avenge their loss this season.
