Arkansas vs. LSU: Win Proves Tigers Worthy of Title Game No Matter What

When the National Championship Game is played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on January 9, it had better include LSU. 

Considering that they're No. 1 in the country now and just handily defeated No. 3 Arkansas, that seems obvious.

But there is one looming obstacle in their SEC Championship Game against Georgia. 

If they win that game, there is no debate here. As the only BCS conference school to go undefeated, LSU would be a natural pick.

But if they lose, it opens up a little bit of confusion. For a second, let's assume that happens.

They would be conceivably vying for that berth against fellow one-loss schools Alabama, Stanford, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech. 

None of those names really stack up. Alabama comes closest, but LSU already defeated them in Alabama. Stanford was manhandled at home by an Oregon team that got blasted by LSU.

Oklahoma State is an interesting team. Their one loss came against an Iowa State team that they should have beaten. But it was on the road and not even 24 hours removed from a tragic plane crash that hit their entire student body and certainly their athletic program. 

I doubt that Virginia Tech stays at one loss. But if they do, they've hardly been dominant against a less-than-impressive ACC.

Remember that Georgia is a good team. The game will also be in their home state. Not their home stadium, but the Bulldogs will certainly have the majority of the fans. 

Through 12 games, LSU has been nothing short of dominant. Both in and out of the SEC, their schedule has been brutal and they have not only gone undefeated, but have been only seriously challenged once. 

Normally, the idea of a rematch annoys me to no end. But if Alabama beats Auburn, the National Championship Game must be Alabama vs. LSU. 

But it's Alabama's responsibility to set that up. Whether they beat Georgia or not, LSU has done enough to be a part of that game.
