Nebraska Bowl Projection: Where Are Cornhuskers Going After Beating Iowa?

Chris HumphreyNov 25, 2011

Where and how far will the Sea of Red be traveling to for this season’s postseason bowl matchup this December?

After Nebraska’s 20-7 win over Iowa today in Lincoln, the Cornhuskers will be leaving the chilly environment in Nebraska for the sunshine of Florida when bowl season comes around this winter.

With the win today over Iowa, Nebraska will secure both their fourth straight bowl game stretching back to 2009 in addition to yet another nine plus win season for the Cornhuskers

The Outback Bowl is the most likely destination for the Cornhuskers as the game will pit a Big Ten conference school against a Southeastern Conference school at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay. The game will mark the first appearance by Nebraska in the Outback Bowl in addition to the first bowl trip to the state of Florida since the Gator Bowl win over the Clemson Tigers in 2009.

In recent weeks, the committee for the Outback Bowl has been at the Cornhuskers’ recent games at Northwestern and was said to be at the game today versus the Hawkeyes in Lincoln to likely to extend an invite to play on the January 2nd bowl game.

In the last five bowl games for Nebraska, the Cornhuskers have been pretty pedestrian going 3-2 with a loss in the most recent bowl game, the 2010 Holiday Bowl 19-7 loss to Washington.

For those Nebraska fans that will look to attend this bowl game, the trip from Lincoln, NE to Tampa, FL is just a short plane trip of a little more than 1400 miles from the Cornhusker state to Sunshine state in January.

While the opponent for the Cornhuskers has yet to be identified, the most likely opponent from the SEC will be Steve Spurrier and his South Carolina Gamecocks, who have their in-state rivalry game with Clemson tomorrow afternoon versus Clemson in Columbia.
