College Football's 10 Most Lopsided Rivalries
This weekend, we'll get the chance to see some of college football's top rivalry showdowns, whether it's the Iron Bowl between Auburn and Alabama, or The Game between Ohio State and Michigan.
Sadly though, we'll also have the displeasure of having to endure some of the uglier rivalries in the sport like Washington-Washington State. The Apple Cup rivalry is one of the least-competitive rivalries in all of college football, but it's not the only stinky series out there.
Here's a look at 10 of the most lopsided rivalries in college football.
Honorable Mention: Oregon vs Oregon State
1 of 11Just outside of our top 10, but with Oregon and Oregon State playing each other this week it seemed like a perfect addition.
The Civil War as its known has been played since 1894 and is one of the oldest rivalries in college football.
While traditionally its been a competitive series, over the last few years Oregon has turned it into an annual route while winning the last four contests by an average of three touchdowns.
That's just about how long Chip Kelly has been with the Duck. We're guessing that's more than a coincidence.
Notre Dame vs. Navy
2 of 11There's a reason that it caught a lot of people by surprise when Navy beat Notre Dame back in 2007. Mainly it was the fact the Irish held a 43-game-winning streak over the Midshipmen before that loss.
Navy has made a dent in the series record with three wins since 2007, but considering the overall record is 71-12-1 in favor of Notre Dame, it's obvious the Midshipmen still have some work to do.
Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State
3 of 11This year's Bedlam game between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State was supposed to determine a National Championship Game participant, but instead it will likely only be determining which team will represent the Big 12 in a BCS bowl game.
Even though they're ranked No. 4 in the country and have the home-field advantage this year, don't go favoring the Cowboys by too much. The Sooners have dominated this rivalry, winning the last eight games and holding an 82-16-7 all-time record.
Michigan vs. Minnesota
4 of 11Minnesota players don't get the chance to drink out of the Little Brown Jug all too often since Michigan has won 20 of the last 21 games in this series.
The Wolverines hold a 67-22-3 all-time record in the rivalry, and the Gophers have managed to win just three games in the series since 1968.
Washington vs. Washington State
5 of 11If there's one rivalry that I have no intentions of ever checking out in person it's the Apple Cup game between Washington and Washington State.
I like the Huskies, and I don't mind the Cougars, but the idea of them playing each other just does nothing for me. Maybe it has to do with the fact that Washington holds a 35-win advantage in the series and has gone 17-8 in the game since 1986.
Missouri vs. Illinois
6 of 11The arch-rivalry between Illinois and Missouri will never have the same type of juice as the Border War rivalry between Missouri and Kansas unless the Illini actually start winning some games and making it competitive.
Missouri has beaten Illinois six straight times and holds a 17-7 all-time record in the series.
Luckily for the Illini, they've been able to get their vengeance on the hardwood.
Texas vs. Texas Tech
7 of 11It's too bad we couldn't get rid of the Texas-Texas Tech rivalry instead of the Texas-Texas A&M rivalry.
Texas has dominated this series since the days of the old Southwest conference, and the Longhorns hold a 46-10 overall record in the series.
Boise State vs. Fresno State
8 of 11There was a time when it seemed like the Boise State-Fresno State rivalry was actually going to turn into something fun, but then Boise State took over the series and kept trouncing the Bulldogs on a regular basis.
The Broncos hold a 10-4 all-time record in the series, and they've put up at least 50 points in each of the last four games—all victories.
Washington State vs. Idaho
9 of 11Apparently, yes—this is in fact a legitimate rivalry, unbeknownst to you East Coasters out there who forgot that Washington State and Idaho even still had football teams.
The two teams haven't met since 2007, but given that the Cougars held a 70-18-3 all-time record in matchup, it's hard to say that anyone misses this one at all.
Michigan vs. Michigan State
10 of 11Michigan State really took it to QB Denard Robinson and Michigan the last two times these teams have met, but the Wolverines still hold a decisive 35-win advantage in the series.
This rivalry has produced some of the most memorable games in Big Ten history, but since the win-count is so lopsided in Michigan's favor, it's hard to say it's one of the conference's great rivalries.
North Carolina vs. North Carolina State
11 of 11Not only does North Carolina dominate its in-state brother in basketball but the Tar Heels really give it to North Carolina State when the two meet on the gridiron as well.
North Carolina State has turned things around recently, winning the last five meetings, but the Tar Heels still hold a 63-32-6 all-time record in the series.
