The BCS "Busters" Are Simply Getting Busted
All season the BCS busters, Ball State, BYU, Boise State, and Utah have been lamenting, "Where's the love? Where's the respect?" Respect given is respect earned and you just haven't convinced us yet.
Let's start with Ball State. They were undefeated till the last game when a 7-5 Buffalo team knocked them off. Did you get that? A 7-5 team most of America never knew played division one football.
And to be exact, let me say that they just didn't lose, they got drilled, 42-24. So they make a decent bowl game where they'll be beaten again by an OK Tulsa team.
Next we go to BYU. This isn't your Lavelle Edwards 'seriously, we are good' BYU team. Ok, they were stomped by a good TCU team just over midway through the season 32-7, but they gained some more wins, started wanting another big match up and were starting the whining.
They must have felt gipped by playing in a Dec. 20th bowl, but it's one they've gotten used to going to. They wanted a better opponent than a 6-6 Arizona team. It's a good thing they didn't get one. Arizona beat them 31-21.
Now the Broncos at Boise State have a slightly better reason to complain. They have beaten Oregon 9-3 (who will play in the Holiday Bowl), a 6-6 Southern Miss (who will play Troy in a bowl game) a bowl bound Hawaii team and some other good teams.
There is reason for some complaints over a #9 rating and being behind so many one loss teams. The truth is however, that voters know that being good is different than being great, and also know that Gary Patterson and TCU will expose them to be the kind of team the voters thought they were.
Lastly, the biggest of the great busters, Utah. Yes they've beaten two top 20 teams and a top 25 Oregon State. They beat the TCU team that will beat Utah. They have had impressive wins and while rated at No. 7 now they are still ranked behind six other teams with a defeat?
Oh! Where's the love? Where's the respect? Where's our BCS national championship game? What else can we do but win?
Utah, you were not robbed. Alabama is going to make you look like a decent High School team. They are going to rip up your defensive lines with long drives that won't just take away your undefeated status, but very likely your manhood too.
After the trashing you'll take at the hands of this team, even you will be convinced that maybe you weren't a top team after all, and the last of the BCS "busters" will all be busted.
