Urban Meyer has profusely denied the rumors that continue to swirl around the Internet, claiming that Meyer is all set to be the next head coach at The Ohio State University.

There is no deal or agreement according to Meyer, even though many supposed inside sources are saying that everything is all ironed out.

If Meyer really is set to become the next head coach at Ohio State, you have to wonder when we should expect the official announcement from the school and the coach.

Meyer has been linked to the Ohio State job since the day Jim Tressel resigned back in May, and those rumors seem like they’re finally going to become a reality some time soon.

Meyer may be delaying the announcement out of respect to Luke Fickell, who if the rumors are true, will be coaching in his last regular season game as the Ohio State head coach this week. Fickell and his team are preparing for their biggest game of the season against arch-rival Michigan this Saturday, and the distractions from the Meyer talk certainly hasn’t made life easier for the interim head coach.

There’s also the possibility that the two parties may not have agreed on all of the financial terms of the contract just yet. And you also have to factor in that Meyer might be concerned about the possible NCAA sanctions the team could face, and he probably wants to do his proper homework on the potential penalties that could be coming in the future.

There’s absolutely no need for Meyer to rush the process, considering he’s set to be the hottest coaching candidate of the offseason. But if Ohio State is the place he really wants to be, and if the school has reached an agreement with him, then it’s likely that the two-time national championship-winning head coach will be eager to get back to work.

Meyer knows these upcoming months are a pivotal time for a program, especially for recruiting.

He realizes that he’s got to start touching base with all of Ohio State’s recruits and begin formulating his plans for the future.

That’s why if the contract really is signed, then we should hear the official word some time next week once the Buckeyes’ regular season has concluded.

If we don’t hear something soon, then it'll be time to start seriously questioning the many rumors and reports that have been floating out there over the last few days.
