College Football Picks Against the Spread: 3 Week 12 Spreads to Stay Away from

Randy ChambersNov 23, 2011

As we get closer to Week 13, gamblers around the country are looking for lines to take advantage of. With all of the upsets going on lately, it's important that you pick and choose wisely or you could lose your shirt (and a large wad of cash of course).

Here are a few games that you are better off playing it safe and staying away from.

LSU Tigers vs Arkansas Razorbacks

You should avoid this game because it's Black Friday and instead of watching football, you should be out shopping trying to make your wife happy. All joking aside, this game could really go either way and that's why you should avoid it. These are the No. 1 and No. 3 teams in the country and the spread is -12 in favor of LSU?

I know the Tigers have a great defense and are capable of covering it. I also know that the Razorbacks have a great offense and could keep it within two touchdowns or possibly win straight up. If you saw the Arkansas-Alabama game, you'll know why you should just play it safe and enjoy the day after Thanksgiving with no headaches.

Iowa State Cyclones vs Oklahoma Sooners

We all saw what Iowa State did to the Oklahoma State Cowboys last weekend. Although I don't expect the Cyclones to pull off another upset here, I still don't like the +27.5 they're given. Oklahoma's defense has struggled as you saw last week and the offense isn't the same with two key weapons out for the year. The Sooners are by far the more talented team and should be able to cover the spread with no problem but with the way both teams are going, I'd pass.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs Virginia Cavaliers

I'd like to start off by saying that I like Virginia to pull off the upset but I don't love it. The Cavaliers have played inspired football all year and the Hokies have struggled all year. Mike London has done a great job with this team and getting the most out of them.

Virginia isn't a bad team at all and is very capable of winning straight up or covering the +5 Vegas is giving them. But we all know about Virginia Tech and the talented program they have. The problem is, you never know which Hokies team is going to show up and that's a rule all gamblers should follow.

If the team is inconsistent, don't bet on them.
