NFL Picks Week 12: Whose Value Is Plummeting After Week 11?
Can you believe it? Thanksgiving is this Thursday, which means the NFL season is winding down and we're about to start the final stretch right into the playoffs.
As we enter the last quarter of the season, we now can get a better evaluation on players and teams who simply plummeting.
For an example, the New York Jets are collapsing right before our eyes and their season appears to be all but over—they're falling flat on their faces as they plummet to the bottom of the AFC East.
In that spirit, here are 10 players and teams that plummeting after the NFL's Week 11.
Blaine Gabbert
1 of 10Out of the four quarterbacks selected in the first round of this year's draft, Blaine Gabbert has been the most disappointing one.
Cam Newton has obviously been the most impressive, while Christian Ponder has had his moments and Jake Locker has been promising in his limited snaps. Gabbert, on the other hand, is simply not getting it done.
Gabbert was simply a non-factor against the lowly Cleveland Browns as he completed only 53.7 percent of his passes for 210 yards while not throwing a touchdown.
On the season, Gabbert has recorded a lousy 64.4 quarterback rating while throwing six touchdowns and five interceptions.
I'm not impressed with Gabbert whatsoever.
New York Jets
2 of 10The New York Jets are at an all-time low right now. In fact, you can make a strong case for believing that their season is all but over.
Let's put it this way: The Jets were Tebowed on Thursday night in a game that they should have easily won.
The Jets are an extremely talented team but they are simply not clicking—they're falling apart right before our eyes with a pitiful 5-5 record.
Fred Jackson
3 of 10Fred Jackson was an early front-runner for the 2011 MVP, but that has changed rather quickly.
Jackson and the Buffalo Bills have been struggling tremendously as of late, as they have now lost three in a row, including last week's embarrassment against the lowly Miami Dolphins.
In the team's 35-8 loss, Jackson ran for a putrid 17 yards on an absolutely pitiful seven attempts—that's a 2.4 yards-per-carry average.
It's amazing how stellar Jackson's season started and how poorly he is playing as of late.
Mark Sanchez
4 of 10This is definitely debatable, but I am going to place most of the blame on New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez—he has made zero progress this season and is still making rookie mistakes.
You can certainly argue that Rex Ryan and New York's coaching staff has put a very short leash on Sanchez, but it's still very alarming that the Jets coaching staff doesn't even trust Sanchez to throw the ball more than 15 yards.
In the team's disastrous loss against Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos, Sanchez threw a game-tying pick-six as well as completing 24 of 40 passes for 252 yards but still managed to only score 13 points offensively.
Sanchez is one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL today.
Matt Hasselbeck
5 of 10It's not that Matt Hasselbeck has been playing poorly, it's just that Jake Locker was extremely promising in relief of Hasselbeck against the Atlanta Falcons.
Hasselbeck has had a solid season this year while posting a 86.1 quarterback rating, but after injuring his throwing elbow, Locker came in and simply brought life to the Tennessee Titans offense.
The Titans have struggled as of late, which could stir up a debate that Locker may be the better option at quarterback rather than the 36-year-old Hasselbeck.
Washington Redskins
6 of 10What happened to the Washington Redskins? They started off 3-1 and look to be a true competitor in the NFC East, but now have lost a putrid six games in a row.
Washington fell short in overtime against the Dallas Cowboys this past weekend, but the Redskins aren't that bad. They have a solid defense with plenty of weapons offensively—it's just their quarterbacks are by far the NFL's worst.
Perhaps the Redskins will start "Sucking for Luck" now.
Chicago Bears
7 of 10It may be a little bit too early to label the Chicago Bears as pretenders, but the loss of Jay Cutler is certainly going to plummet their stock value.
Cutler had led the Chicago Bears to a solid 7-3 start, but now is likely done for the remainder of the season with a broken thumb on his throwing hand—how much of a buzz kill is that?
We will have to see how Caleb Hanie plays at quarterback for Chicago in order to see if the Bears are really that screwed.
Chris Johnson
8 of 10If Chris Johnson's stock couldn't get much lower—it just did.
Johnson put up an absolutely putrid performance against the Atlanta Falcons as he ran for 13 yards on 12 carries—so much for being nicknamed "CJ2K."
Look, all I have to say is a pitiful 1.1 yards per carry. That's all.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
9 of 10Ever since signing a massive contract extension on October 28, Ryan Fitzpatrick has been one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL, if not the worst.
Against the Miami Dolphins, the Harvard product was horrendous. He completed only 51.3 percent of his passes for 209 yards while throwing no touchdowns and being picked off twice.
The Bills have now lost three in a row, while Fitzpatrick's quarterback rating on the year is only 82.14 while throwing 14 interceptions.
San Diego Chargers
10 of 10Where should I even start? I hate to simply put it this way, but the San Diego Chargers absolutely suck—do I regret saying that? No. This team is far too talented to be losing five games in a row.
The Chargers are now 4-6 on the season and the team's general manger A.J. Smith needs to seriously consider firing head coach Norv Turner—as it's far overdue.
San Diego is all but done on the season. The Chargers are far more screwed than the New York Jets.
To sum it up, the San Diego Chargers are "the turds in the punch bowl."
