BCS Rankings: Teams That Prove System Is Flawed
The BCS system is an absolute joke. It has been since its inception. It is an absurd answer to what was an antiquated problem.
Nowhere is this more apparent than when looking at the following teams.
Houston Cougars
There is no better example of why this system is flawed than the Houston Cougars. This is a team that could win every single game they play and not be champions.
That's absurd. There should only be the possibility of one team going undefeated in any one season, and that team should be the champion.
I don't think Houston should play in the National Championship game. There are teams that are more deserving. Teams that will be a better test for front runner LSU.
But Houston should get a chance to prove that they either belong or don't belong via a playoff system. Who am I, or anyone else to say, that they couldn't compete with anyone when they have yet to taste defeat?
Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia lost their first two games, and with that their championship hopes were over. Since that point, the Bulldogs have been undefeated.
Included in that stretch is a 45-7 drubbing of Auburn. This team has clearly come together at the right time. They are peaking as the season has progressed.
These are the kinds of teams that need to be rewarded. In any other sport, these are the exact kinds of teams that make memorable playoff runs.
Think of the St. Louis Cardinals this year. What a platform for sporting dramatics the Cardinals gave us. College football does not allow for the same kind of team (Georgia) to provide us all with the same spark.
Alabama Crimson Tide
In the climate of this flawed system, Alabama absolutely deserves a shot at the title game, but that is why this system is so flawed.
That game would be a rematch of two teams in the same conference. I don't want to see two teams in the same conference duke it out for a championship before they have had to play teams from other conferences.
There needs to be the contrast in styles on displays that happens when teams from different conferences play against each other. If they were to meet after proving themselves against other teams, than great. They deserve it, but make them prove it first.
