College Football: Why the Race for the BCS Title Is Far from over

Oliver Crawford IIINov 20, 2011

Last night the college football landscape was shaken, and the race for the BCS just became more interesting.

Will there be a rematch of LSU and Alabama?

What about Oregon?

Oklahoma loses to who? Baylor?

Clemson fell to the North Carolina State Wolfpack, without their star WR Sammy Watkins in the lineup. Perhaps the freshman standout means more to that team than originally thought.

Four teams in the top ten lost this weekend, and now there will be more questions surrounding the BCS title game. There is a slew of one loss teams who will be crying foul if they are snubbed for the title game.

The upcoming LSU match-up vs. Arkansas has HUGE title implications, not only in the SEC, but the coveted national championship as well.

The season is far from over. Strap your seat belts and prepare for the ride. Lets take a look at what teams have a shot at the BCS championship game.

Houston Cougars

1 of 7

If you are sleeping on Case Keenum, you might want to wake up.

I'm tired of hearing the questions concerning the competition Houston has faced; if a QB throws nine TDs in a game I will take notice.

This senior QB has bounced back from devastating injuries in his career, and this season he has re-set the record books. This gunslinger is a surefire Heisman candidate, and he has thrown for just shy of 4,300 yards and a ridiculous 38 scores on the season.

With Houston's last game being against Tulane, one would have to assume Houston will run the table, and make serious noise in the race for the BCS.

The title may be out of the question, however a BCS bid is definitely in reach.

Boise State Broncos

2 of 7

Kellen Moore and the Broncos bounced back from a heartbreaking loss at the hands of TCU, two weeks ago.

Against San Diego State Moore once again had an outstanding game throwing the football, and he ended the contest with 366 yards passing and four TDs. Boise won 52-35 over the Aztecs, and with all of the losses in front of them, Boise received a gift from the football Gods.

How far will the Broncos climb?

Stanford Cardinal

3 of 7

It may have not been pretty, but the Cardinal squeaked out a close victory over Cal this weekend 31-28.

The Cardinal overcame poor field conditions, and the team was a bit lethargic out of the gate, however quickly fought back to win the game.

Luck had another solid game, throwing for 257 yards and a pair of TDs. The Cardinal will likely move up a few spots in the BCS rankings, and they have a big game to close their season when Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish come to town.

Will the future No.1 draft pick be able to carry his team to the promise land?

Only time will tell.

Virginia Tech Hokies

4 of 7

Logan Thomas had a solid outing against the North Carolina Tar Heels, as the Hokies won a close one 24-21.

Virginia Tech will play the ACC title game vs. in-state rival Virginia, and if the Hokies win this game, they will be a lock in the BCS.

The title game may be out of reach, but if Tech continues to win, and a team in front of them loses, they could be a dark-horse candidate.

Arkansas Razorbacks

5 of 7

Arkansas was simply too much for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, as they won easily 44-17.

This team has scored at least 10 points in every quarter, led by QB Tyler Wilson's 365 yards passing and three TDs. The Razorbacks have been solid all season, with their one loss being to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

All eyes will be in Baton Rouge, Louisiana November 25, when the Razorbacks play No.1 LSU.

Alabama Crimson Tide

6 of 7

Alabama controls their destiny as long as they beat their hated rival, the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl November 26 in Auburn, Alabama.

These games are always very close, and the Tide should not take the Tigers easily. Richardson is a surefire Heisman candidate, and head coach Nick Saban will have his players ready to play.

If the Tide takes care of business, they will anxiously await the outcome of the LSU vs. Arkansas match-up.

LSU Tigers

7 of 7

LSU flat out dominated the Mississippi Rebels 52-3 and the Tigers remained unbeaten. The defense has been outstanding this year led by one of the best secondaries in the nation.

That secondary will face one of their toughest tests against the Arkansas Razorbacks and their QB Tyler Wilson.

Jordan Jefferson and the Tigers have one thing on their side, and that is they ultimately control their destiny. The Bayou will be rocking this weekend. And if the Tigers pull out the win they will almost certainly be in the BCS championship game.
