Kentucky vs. Georgia: 5 Halftime Adjustments for the Bulldogs
This is easily the biggest game of the Bulldogs season. A win locks up an SEC East championship and a shot at one of the West’s best in the Georgia Dome while a loss puts Mark Richt right back on the hot seat.
So far the Bulldogs have looked flat against an overmatched Kentucky team. Here are five adjustments Mark Richt needs to make at halftime:
Control Emotions:
By all accounts the 2012 senior class has underachieved. A win today, an SEC East championship and a shot at a BCS game would go a long way to redeem the last three years of disappointments.
Nobody knows this better than the 'Dawgs themselves. If they are going to pull this one out they are going to need to remember that they are a better football team than Kentucky and stop playing not to lose.
Stretch the Running Game:
If the Bulldogs expect to gain any respect for their run game the are going to have to stop asking 5’6" 174-pound Brandon Harton to pound the ball between the tackles.
If Georgia is going to have any success on the ground in the second half, they will have to stretch the edges of the Wildcat line and run away from 340-pound Mister Cobble.
Get the Crowd In It:
The Bulldogs and their fans came out a little flat after the Senior Day activities between the hedges. While the Bulldogs need to keep things in perspective on the field, the Georgia faithful in Sanford should remember that the SEC East championship is on the line and make their voices heard.
Come Out Hot:
The 'Dawgs need to put the first half behind them and start fresh in the second. Don’t be surprised to see Mark Richt switch things up on offense to give his players a spark. I would love to see Aaron Murray and company come out in a no-huddle offense on the first drive of the second half.
Man Up Isaiah:
If it’s not one thing, it’s another with the Bulldogs’ running backs. Carlton Thomas is not even in the stadium and an already banged up Isaiah Crowell tweaked his ankle on Georgia's first drive and is yet to return. I know that Crowell is a freshman, but if he wants to be the man in the Bulldog backfield he’s got to play like one. Shake it off and get back in the game young man.
