Jerry Sandusky: Why People Will Forever Question Penn State Charities
Among the other major happenings in Happy Valley, Jerry Sandusky's charity, The Second Mile, is closing. This will change the public opinion of Penn State charities forever.
Sandusky used his status and his charity to meet children that he allegedly molested. This charity, whether intentionally or not, seems to have aided Sandusky, and he now faces 40 charges including felony sex crimes against children.
Because he met the boys through the charity and even received almost half a million dollars from them, this charity has ruined the image of Penn State helping children through their charity work.
The Second Mile is now expected to fold. While there has not been an official release yet, staying open would cause serious accusations toward them.
It is a shame to see a charity that has helped hundreds of children close because of one man. While they were not blameless by any means, there is no denying that The Second Mile has helped many needy children.
Sandusky has been the cause of much pain and misery to the victims, their families and Penn State. Head coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier were both fired, marring the legacy of the best college football coach in history.
All of this has happened because of one man.
The next big hit for Penn State because of Sandusky will be the public opinion turning against them. People will no longer be able to trust Penn State or their charities now that they have found out that one has led to such heinous crimes.
Which parents will trust their child's well-being with a Penn State charity? None.
Sandusky has forever changed the landscape of Happy Valley in just about every way possible. This scandal will go down as one of the biggest in history, and its mark will never be forgotten.
