College Gameday Video: Trivia Whiz Kirk Herbstreit Robs Chris Fowler of $100
A cocky Chris Fowler threw out another ridiculous trivia question and offered up the customary $100 bill as a prize to any panelist on College GameDay who could pull off the impossible and provide the answer.
This week, Kirk Herbstreit delivered.
Fowler began by saying, "let me introduce you to my friend Ben Franklin. You may have seen one of these before, you've never won one on this set, and you're not going to get it either."
The trivia question was, "Houston has had seven straight games of 49+ points. Who was the last team to do it eight times in a row?"
The immediate reaction is to go with a high-scoring juggernaut from a major conference, but Herbstreit has seen this stunt too many times to know that the obvious answer is never the right one.
He thought outside the box, guessed it was an Ivy League team and picked the right one by chance.
"Harvard."
Fowler immediately called him a cheater. After all, who would know that the 1887 Harvard team was the team Houston was looking to tie this week.
He put the money back in his pocket, but after a little badgering from Desmond Howard, he reluctantly gave the C-note to Lee Corso to hold while the investigation was being launched.
Whether Herbstreit cheated, pulled that factoid out of his subconscious or blindly picked the right answer, it was nice to see Fowler's smug demeanor completely disappear.
We'll see if this mini-tradition lives on now that Fowler has been reduced to a ranting conspiracy theorist.
