LSU vs. Arkansas: Will Arkansas Give the Tigers More Trouble Than Alabama Did?

Randy ChambersNov 18, 2011

The LSU Tigers will pretty much get a week off when they take on the Ole Miss Rebels this Saturday. But next week, the matchup against the Arkansas Razorbacks will not only help determine the outcome of the SEC but also the National Championship.

LSU is recently coming off of a matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide and the game was even as both played remarkable defense. As we all know the game went into overtime and the Tigers ended up winning by a field goal.

Will Arkansas be able to give the Tigers trouble as well?

The short answer is yes. They are a Top 10 team for a reason and have only lost one game which was against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The Razorbacks have one of the top passing games in the country, averaging 311 yards per contest in the air. Tyler Wilson is completing 61 percent of his passes and has thrown 18 touchdowns.

Arkansas has physical receivers who will have a height advantage against the Tigers cornerbacks with Cobi Hamilton and Chris Gregg at 6'3".

The Razorbacks defense has struggled mightily lately, giving up 24 points to Ole Miss and 28 points to Vanderbilt. They give up 172 rushing yards a game, ninth worst in the SEC.

That's a major concern when going up against LSU, which averages 195 yards on the ground.

Another concern I have is the Razorbacks have already played a tough defensive team in Alabama and the offense struggled. They only scored 14 points and had 226 total yards, which is 229 yards less than their average on the year.

Mainly, it's hard to be one-dimensional against a great defense. Arkansas struggles to runs the ball with running back Knile Davis out for the season and a lot of pressure is put on young quarterback Tyler Wilson to make even more plays.

Arkansas has won three of the four meetings, so they will come into this game with a lot of confidence. But there are a lot of questions heading into this game for the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Will it be as close as the Alabama game? Doubt it. The Alabama-LSU game was as close as you could possibly get since it went into overtime.

Arkansas has as good of a chance since Alabama did to beat LSU but the struggles on offense and struggles stopping the run aren't good for the Razorbacks.
