Notre Dame Football: Boston College Classic Trap Game for Fighting Irish

Tim KeeneyNov 17, 2011

With a record sitting at 7-3, two regular season games and a bowl game left, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a legitimate shot at getting 10 wins for the first time since 2006.

The one major speed-bump to that goal?

The ninth-ranked Stanford Cardinal, who Notre Dame visits next week. That makes Boston College—yes, 3-7 Boston College—a classic trap game this week for the Irish.

The Eagles have certainly struggled this season, but that doesn't mean Notre Dame should be looking forward to next week's game with Stanford at the Farm.

It is tempting, sure, but that's exactly how upsets happen.

Boston College may only have three wins on the season, but it can dangerous if you let it. Wide receiver Colin Larmond Jr., who is averaging 17.4 yards per catch, is extremely dangerous and can take any catch to the house if you forget about him.

Furthermore, the Eagles don't hurt themselves with stupid penalties, as they are averaging just 4.2 penalties per game, which is good enough for seventh best in the nation.

But when it all comes down to it, the Eagles are bad on offense and mediocre on defense. They don't force a lot of turnovers and they don't hold on to the ball very well, either.

As long as the Irish focus on this game, and this game only, they should be able to roll past Boston College.

Notre Dame has a clear advantage in both the passing and running game and should be able to jump out to a big lead.

Turnovers have continued to be a problem for the Irish, but like I mentioned earlier, Boston College isn't a team that will likely take advantage of that.

Really, Notre Dame has an advantage in every aspect of the game, but to put it simply, they can't think like that.

They have to ignore the fact their biggest game of the season is next week. They have to prepare for Boston College and be sharp in all parts of the game. They have to play like they have the past few weeks.

If they do those things, the Irish will win. If not, you can blame it on Stanford.
