The 7 Coolest New Helmets in College Football This Season
If it weren’t for all of these scandals going on at various universities, the new uniforms and helmets would be the primary point of discussion for things off the field in college football.
Oregon started the trend of new, crazy uniforms and many schools have tried to emulate them—some more successfully than others.
There were plenty of new helmets this year, but here are the seven best.
Southern Miss
1 of 7They look like helmets from the 1970s, but it was done in a modern way that worked really well. Southern Miss is 9-1 and maybe these flat black helmets helped motivate them to get there.
Ohio State
2 of 7I didn’t really like the Buckeye’s Nike Pro Combat uniforms, but the helmets were really well done. The big stripe down the middle was an interesting version of the Ohio State classic and is a great look into the future for what we can see from other new uniforms.
Rutgers
3 of 7The Scarlet Knights were one of the many teams to have an all-black look this season and they pulled it off really well. The helmets for them are simple, yet modern and intimidating. A great look for the team as Eric LeGrand led them onto field.
Michigan State
4 of 7The colors weren’t exactly Michigan State’s, but these green and gold helmets were a pleasant sight from Michigan’s uniforms. Hopefully we’ll see more helmets like this, but in the actual colors of the school.
Arizona State
5 of 7The Sun Devils redesigned their logo and it looks fantastic. They got three new uniforms as well, but the best look has to be the maroon based with gold accents.
It actually represents the school’s colors and they looked great beating USC in them.
Georgia
6 of 7Having “Georgia” on the back of all of the jerseys was not a smart move, but the Bulldog’s helmets were spectacular. They didn’t help Georgia beat Boise State, but they looked great trying. There was something about the silver that made it special.
Cincinnati
7 of 7So I may be a sucker for all-black, but these are some of the best helmets I’ve ever seen. Intimidating all the way around and black is actually one of their schools main colors. Really well done.
