Week 12 College Football Picks: Predicting the Biggest Upsets on Saturday

Randy ChambersNov 16, 2011

Upsets are what makes college sports and Saturdays so much fun.

We've been spoiled the last few weeks of the college football season with a ton of great games and several upsets. This week there aren't as many marquee matchups, but that makes a great possibility for a few ranked teams to get knocked off and turn the BCS rankings upside down.

Here are a few games that could shock the college football world and leave a few teams wondering how they lost.

Oklahoma vs. Baylor

1 of 4

I'm not picking the Baylor Bears to win this game, but the Oklahoma Sooners have to be on upset alert. Anytime a team averages 40 points a game like the Bears do, there is a chance for them to win the game.

Who knows how the Sooners will respond with wide receiver Ryan Broyles out for the season? The Sooners have dominated this series but with the game being in Baylor, I think the Bears could stand their ground and make this game closer than most expect.

The only thing that could prevent Baylor from pulling off the upset is their defense, but when you have Robert Griffin running your team, anything is possible.

Kansas State vs. Texas

2 of 4

I seriously don't know how Kansas State is the underdog in this game. Maybe because the game is in Texas or is it the fact that voters and oddsmakers don't want to believe that the Longhorns aren't the same team they were a year ago?

Kansas State may not do anything particularity well except run the ball, but they are one of the best teams at finding ways to win. Texas, on the other hand, struggles on both sides of the ball for long periods of time and is very inconsistent.

I'll take the team that has proven it can beat quality teams over the team that hasn't any day.

Kansas State wins this game.

Boise State vs. San Diego State

3 of 4

Kellen Moore hasn't lost two straight games in his entire career, but if that Boise State defense plays the same way they did last week, he will.

San Diego State is not a bad team at all, and with the game being at home, I give them a shot.

Quarterback Ryan Lindley is having a down season but he is capable of putting up numbers as you saw last season with 28 touchdown passes. They also have a stud in running back Ronnie Hillman, who has over 1,200 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. He is questionable for this game but if he plays, watch out.

The Aztec team stayed competitive against Michigan and played with TCU this season. If the Broncos think this game is going to be easy, they'll end up with their second loss of the season.

Virginia vs. Florida State

4 of 4

Did you know that if the Virginia Cavilers win their next two games, they'll be in the ACC championship game? Head coach Mike London has done a fabulous job with this program, and you can bet he'll have this team up and ready to take on the Seminoles.

The Cavaliers have the fourth-rated offense in the ACC and the third-rated defense. They're able to pressure the quarterback and have 12 interceptions, which is the third best in the conference.

Virginia already has impressive victories this season over Georgia Tech and Miami, so I'm not doubting that they can go into Tallahassee and pull off a shocker.
