Bowl Projections 2012: Teams That Won't Be in BCS Picture in December

Nicholas MoffittNov 14, 2011

The real BCS picture is starting to show itself with only two weeks remaining in the regular season. LSU remains atop of the standings and the team that will occupy the No. 2 spot is still a big question mark.

Oklahoma State controls its destiny, but will have a tough game against Oklahoma soon and other one-loss teams are looking to make their move to No. 2.

The BCS Top 10 will have some major changes once it comes to bowl selection and these four Top-10 teams will fall before those rankings, creating one crazy BCS situation.

No. 8 Virginia Tech

1 of 4

The Virginia Tech Hokies will most likely face No. 7 Clemson in the ACC championship game and will have a tough time winning that game. Although Virginia Tech seems to always play its best football come December, Clemson is just too good for the Hokies to beat.

Virginia Tech was already defeated 23-3 by Clemson earlier in the season, and I'm not sure if Logan Thomas and company have made enough improvement to erase that deficit.

Just two weeks ago, the Hokies only beat Duke by a score of 14-10, which was not a very convincing victory. They've had a few other close calls this season and will fall from the BCS Top 10.

No. 6 Arkansas

2 of 4

After a tough loss to Alabama, the Arkansas Razorbacks have bounced back by winning six straight games and are in a position to reach the Top Five if they win this week against Mississippi State.

Then Arkansas must travel to LSU and face a tough team and crowd. It has improved since the Alabama game and will fight the Tigers toughly, but they're No. 1 for a reason and will handle the Razorbacks without a problem.

Arkansas averages over 300 yards passing per game, and LSU has one of the best, if not the best, secondary in college football. The Razorbacks will end the regular season with two losses and because of the other high-ranking SEC teams will go to a bowl where they will demolish their opponent.

No. 2 Oklahoma State

3 of 4

Sorry Cowboys, but the football gods don't have a national championship stored for you this year.

Landry Jones and the Sooners will prevail over Oklahoma State in their Dec. 3rd matchup that will no doubt be the game of the week.

If Oklahoma wins, it could potentially hop Alabama to play in the national championship game and probably will. After being ranked as the preseason No. 1 and then falling inexplicably to Texas Tech, Oklahoma will no doubt take this chance and run with it.

Oklahoma State started the season No. 9 in the AP poll and rose after surprisingly going undefeated until now, but in two weeks the Cowboys will lose the game and show that the preseason AP poll was a better gauge than the current BCS rankings are.

Oklahoma is a complete team while the Cowboys rely heavily on an offense that averages a little over 50 points a game. When Oklahoma forces the Cowboys into a defensive struggle, they won't be able to survive and stay alive in the BCS picture.

No. 1 LSU

4 of 4

LSU will lose in the SEC championship game to Georgia and create a frenzy around the BCS national championship.

Georgia is a tough team that lost its first two games to teams in the Top 15. The Bulldogs have rebounded to win eight straight.

With an offense that is rolling on all cylinders as the season has progressed, they look to take advantage of an LSU defense that hasn't given much up, but being one game away from the national championship will be too much pressure and the Tigers will blow it.

Some of the keys for this game are to keep the honey badger from making any big plays and to do what Alabama did to the LSU quarterbacks and make them one dimensional, so the Bulldogs can add the extra person in the box and stop the power running game of LSU.

Although it will be a tough battle, Georgia will emerge as SEC champions and make its way to a BCS bowl and LSU will have to settle for an at-large BCS bowl berth, which will create huge debate on who should play in the national title game.
