BCS Bowl Projections 2012: Predicting the Fallout from Oregon vs. Stanford
Week 11 of the college football season provided us with more great games and shocking upsets. The upsets included teams that not only had BCS hopes but could possibly win the BCS National Championship. This weeks BCS rankings were turned upside down as only three teams in the Top 10 stayed the same.
If college football has shown us anything, it's that, just when you think you've figured it out everything changes.
Here are the projections for all five of the BCS bowl games after Week 11.
Rose Bowl: Oregon Ducks vs. Wisconsin Badgers
1 of 5How I got this matchup: This bowl hosts the No. 1 teams from both the Pac-12 and the Big Ten. The Ducks are now the front-runner for the Pac-12 title and the Badgers got a ton of help last week from Penn State and Ohio State.
Hopefully this matchup will actually happen because it will feature a ton of offense and be a fun game to watch. Oregon might have the advantage because Wisconsin's defense is extremely slow.
Regardless, this would be a great game.
Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Stanford Cardinal
2 of 5How I got this matchup: The loser of the Oklahoma/Oklahoma State game will end up in this spot. Stanford will still make a BCS bowl game by finishing 11-1 despite losing to the Oregon Ducks.
This is another game that should feature a ton of offense but after watching Stanford's performance last week, the Cardinal may be in trouble. Stanford is going to need to work on tackling because if it thought the Ducks could score points, it hasn't seen anything yet.
Sugar Bowl: Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Houston Cougars
3 of 5How I got this matchup: The Sugar Bowl will take the No. 1 SEC team not playing in the title game, which will be Alabama. The door also opens up for Houston since the Boise State Broncos lost this week to TCU.
So the Sugar Bowl goes from one team that's trying to prove themselves to another. The Houston Cougars have one of the top offenses in the country, and Case Keenum has been one of the most consistent quarterbacks the last five seasons.
It'll be interesting to see how they fare against a defense of Alabama's caliber.
Orange Bowl: Clemson Tigers vs. Cincinnati Bearcats
4 of 5How I got this matchup: Clemson is the favorite to win the ACC, while somebody has to win the Big East so the Bearcats will probably be in that spot.
There are still a few other teams that could fill these spots, including West Virginia and Virginia Tech. Regardless of which teams it is, this is by far the least attractive BCS bowl game. Clemson and its high-scoring offense will probably be one of few reasons to watch this matchup.
National Championship: LSU Tigers vs. Oklahoma Sooners
5 of 5How I got this matchup: LSU will likely win out, and if Oklahoma runs the table it will probably jump up to No. 2 based off strength of schedule.
There could still be several other teams in this championship game, and LSU isn't a lock since it still has to play Arkansas and probably Georgia. But this matchup is the most likely considering both teams take care of business the rest of the way.
This game would feature an awesome matchup of the Sooners offense against the Tigers defense. It would also be an interesting chess match between Les Miles and Bob Stoops.
