BCS Rankings: 3 Teams That Will Fall out of Rankings After Week 12

Adam SpencerNov 13, 2011

In order for teams to rise in the BCS rankings, there must be a team that falls.

This article will take a look at the latter.

These are the teams that were borderline BCS Top 25 anyway, and will probably fall out of the rankings all together with the losses they suffered this week.

Let’s take a look at three teams that will most likely fall out of the rankings this week.

No. 20 Auburn (6-4)

Auburn got absolutely destroyed by Georgia on Saturday, 45-7. Aaron Murray and the Bulldogs did everything right in a statement game for the Georgia season.

They were exposed on both offense and defense.

Honestly, it was surprising the Tigers made it this far still being ranked with the 84th-best offense in the country and the 78th-best defense.

They don’t do anything very well, and now it’s finally starting to catch up to them.

No. 21 Georgia Tech (7-3)

Georgia Tech always runs into problems when they face teams with good run defenses.

That was the case on Thursday night against the Virginia Tech Hokies.

The Hokies held the Yellow Jackets to just 243 rushing yards, well short of their 319 yards-per-game average.

Georgia Tech also couldn’t throw the ball when it needed to in the fourth quarter. The team was held to just 97 passing yards on the day.

Meanwhile, the Hokies exposed an average Georgia Tech defense, putting up 37 points in their ninth victory of the season.

No. 23 Cincinnati (7-2)

Cincinnati had the Big East title at their fingertips, but they couldn’t quite finish off the West Virginia Mountaineers in the fourth quarter on Saturday.

Now, they have a big game this weekend at Rutgers.

A win would likely mean the Bearcats would represent the Big East in a BCS bowl. A loss would put Rutgers in the driver’s seat for the conference.

But regardless of what happens in the Big East, the Bearcats will no longer be in the BCS Top 25.

That will likely mean no Big East teams will be ranked. West Virginia might jump into the rankings, but that remains to be seen.

It wasn’t a good weekend for the least powerful BCS automatic-qualifying conference.
